After the last couple of days I've had, give me the road every time. I had to fly out of Cairns to Brisbane on Wednesday. Apart from the fact Cairns Airport is an absolute mess under reconstruction, the airline management is a matching mess. Everything is a long wait and a long walk. The planes were banked up waiting to depart, causing us to leave 45mins late. Brisbane on Thursday arvo was also a mess. Virgin flight from Melbourne was 2hours late in to Brissie, making us 2.5hrs late departing to Cairns. What a mess! I think they set up the schedules without taking the time on the runway into account. Then they have to change arrival and departure gates because the other flights are on their designated gates at the correct times. I was glad to get back to Cairns, as I was absolutely buggered. I hate the city ever more now, and it reminds me why I don't do cities if I can help it. My eyes and throat hurt, and I had a permanent funny taste in my mouth. Yuk! You can keep your cities. PS. I've finally been scheduled for surgery, after 15months of tests and appointments. They want to get me off the list before Christmas. Yeehah!

I know you said they want you off the list before Christmas - I hope it is really soon so that you will be able to enjoy Christmas without too much discomfort. Barb

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. It really is great to have someone on my side. Yes, it's been a long time coming, but the surgeon himself is aware of the urgency now, and I will be glad to see the faulty part go in the bin, or to research. As long as it's giving me grief after all these years. Thank God for medical science. There but for the grace of God go I. This procedure didn't even exist 25 years ago. I'm lucky I've lived long enough to be the beneficiary and get some of my health back. I'm excited! Surgery doesn't faze me, I'm not the least bit worried. I'm very trusting when it comes to the medical profession. I know there have been some serious stuff ups, but I'm not going to be one of them. If we approach everything with apprehension, we'd never get out of bed. Thanks to all of you. It's very reassuring. Cheers

Hope it all happens as planned Chris. I don't do cities either, though I've seen 'em all now....
good luck with the "nip and tuck" you'll come out looking like a bought one, just one other thing if, when you stand for the first time after surgery, just make sure you dont "rattle" and be sure the surgeon still has his watch on, that ticking could drive you mad in the dead of night
all the luck of the irish to you, all will be good, as for support you got tons of it here!
How could I have any bad luck with such a big, positive support group looking after me. Thanks everyone. I have to thank the Cupie's for their kindness once again providing transport from the airport to the hospital. Not so much a "nip and tuck" Dave, more a slice and dice, remove faulty part and shut shop. All this fuss for a malfunctioning adrenal gland. What a life-changing malfunction! Please don't take your health for granted ever. As we get older our parts wear out or lose some function. I could be depressed and miserable with self-pity, but my will to survive and drive is too strong. There's lots more country to see, and I want to be there. I'm not ready to lie down and wait, I'm just getting really twitchy an ready to hitch up again. This is just a glitch in my plans. Still, Cairns is not such a bad place to have a glitch.

ah a cut and shut, never mind we all get to go to the panelbeaters now and again, they want me in soon as well but I'm in no hurry, no rush to get tangled up in the web of doctors and tests
All the best with your op, listen to all the advice but don't forget to ask questions on anything you are unsure of. As for flights or road, my philosophy has always been "you can see the tops of clouds anywhere in any aeroplane" the only way to see a country is by road. Lets promote that.
all the best,
Terry.

You're right there Terry, although I've seen a lot of Oz from clear skies flying from Broome to Perth, Adelaide or Alice Springs. All those bush tracks and rocky ranges which don't appear on many maps. Then there's the colours - it's a great way to get a bird's eye view of what I'd like to get a closer view of. Not all caravan country, but I'll adjust.
Dave, if you have a faulty part, it's in your, and your family's, best interest to investigate and if necessary, remove the dodgy bit. Quality of life is paramount. I'm sure your family would like to see you healthier and more comfortable, the sooner the better. Probably preferable to you complaining and pointing out your disadvantage. Perserverance is not bravery, but it can be a very foolish decision in the long term. Do it for your family.
Once again everyone, thanks for the kind thoughts again. Cheers
