Due to a housesitting booking falling through we find we have 5 weeks to kill here in W.A. Our next sit is in Bunbury starting 21/11. We have already been north and are heading south, currently at coral bay, Does anyone have any good suggestions we we may spend the next 5 weeks on a fairly restricted budget. thank you.
Don't know any caravan parks in the area or what they charge but around the south west corner there are plenty of places to explore that are free of charge or fairly cheap. If you are into fishing of course there is plenty of that, surfing maybe! We haven't been in that area as caravanners but when we visit our son in Perth we take some time out and head down that way. Esperance is great as is Albany of course but they are high tourist areas. I'm sure there will be some caravan parks in less touristy areas that don't cxharge an arm or a leg to stay. Once you have found that then you can do your local research on the cheap and or free attractions. Caves Road just came to mind. Lots of caves to explore and from memory not too exy. Any way good luck and I hope you find some way of filling the hiatus.
Terry.

If it is not too hot, could you explore inland from Geraldton? We found the area around Yalgoo interesting for a few days; ditto Cue. There is bitumen road from Mt Magnet through Sandstone and so on to Leonora, Kalgoorlie. If you want to stick to the coast, check out what they are charging at this time of the year at the caravan park at Greenough, just south of Geraldton? It may be a Top Tourist one. Pleasant spot near the sea. A few years back, we stayed at the caravan "park" at Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station, on the way to Monkey Mia. Was very basic, but a cheap base for exploring an area that has some very costly caravan parks!

Hi Terry, We were in WA last year [top to bottom] lots of nice places ,Cape La Grand NP was very good, lots of walks ,beaches ,headlands etc ,fairly quite.
It's located east of Esprance.
Caves road is also a very good area to spend some time ,theres a couple of free camps, vg caves wineries etc , go to Voyger Estate Winery just to ckeck out the gardens.they are unbeleiveable.
Also the Pinacles [near Cervanties ]VG.
If you want something totaly different,New Norcia ,[dont have to be into religion to appreciate it]. small village built by the Monks in the 1800sit was fully self contained with boys & girls schools, sporting fac. hotel, [still operating with dinning ] but the chapples will blow you away ,no need to go to Roam tom see painted ceilings.
it's located a little N/E of Perth. there's non/powered camp accross the rd or power behind servo.
That will keep you's busy for a while. Good luck.

If you're on a budget on your way to Bunbury I'd go inland to check out the wildflowers which will be in full bloom further south of New Norcia. You could go all the way over to Mt. Magnet and do the Leonora run to Kal, but you may not want to go so far east. The country inland from Mandurah and in as far as Wave Rock and district would probably be a good thing. Not too far from Bunbury. If you have the time and cash the caves down between Dunsburough and Augusta are worth a look. The parks are in between seasons at the moment - between winter in the north and summer which is the peak season down south. Parks shouldn't be too expensive right now. Take it easy, and have a good look around. I want to head back that way to fill in the gaps of the places I've missed in the west, and catch up with a special girlfriend in Perth.

Yeah! West from Geraldon. Mullewa, Mt Magnet, Sandstone, Leinster, Leonora, Kalgoorlie...recommend....Sue
There's also Nanga Bay Station/Resort. It's a spacious fishing camp with motel, cabins, powered van sites, camping areas, camp kitchen and ... wait for it..... a thermal pool/spa. They do a great meal each night, and you can hang around the camp fire sharing bevvies with the other guests. It's on the road to Monkey Mia, which is about 80kms further along the peninsula. I was disappointed with Monkey Mia and the way they operate the resort and dolphin feeding. That's all that's there, and they charge for it, especially if you're not staying at the resort/caravan park. Your choice.
