Hi Terry,

Click on the link below, the 'Whirlpool Forum' is running a topic on this very same problem.

Good luck with that.
I am constantly questioning Telstra Bigpond about their accounting. I've worked out if I phone the 13---- from my mobile they vary the charges. Some are 25c while others are charged by the second - that's right, the second, not by the minute.
They also add my internet account to my phone account causing great confusion, espcially if I pay the total bill to Telstra. They tried to charge me for late payment on my internet account once, until I pointed out the facts.
It's so frustrating dealing with these mobs.
I believe their business practices are in conflict and almost illegal. You have to watch them.
You probably have to phone one of those 13---- numbers to find out how to stop the 101 answering your phone.
Watch them. Keep a track of dates and times you contacted them about this to make sure you aren't being penalised and charged for something you don't want or don't have.

Last night's news re. complaints to the Communications Industry Ombudsman put the complaints up by 50% for the year, of which the major portion was about billing errors and mostly in respect of Telstra.

Go figure; as they say in the movies.

My own personal experience has caused headaches and heartaches.
This mob behaves as if it's not accountable. They treat their customers like idiots, and carry on business with an amazing amount of arrogance.
To call the technical service number and speak to a Philipino Parrot is a frustrating, demoralising experience. The work from a script but if you ask them a question and break the sequence, they have to start again. It can take hours, which they charge you for. Some calls are just .25c, but others, and there isn't any obvious reason why, are charged at up to $1.65 per minute.
I currently have a query before them to get them to explain their charging practices.
Surely these people are accountable!

In the front of the phone book, under "How to use Telstra phone services" theres instructions for turning ON the 101 service....but not to get rid of it. Sneaky!

My very best wishes to you Brickies (and everybody!), in all your dealings with Telstra!

I should think you'd have to ring them (good luck with that). It also costs me 25 cents to retrieve the message. Since I see the number who has phoned I can ring back and don't bother with 101...Telstra piss me off!

Call 101, wait for the prompt and then press 3 to cancel the 101 service.

Try that.............it may work.........I read it on a site elsewhere.

We've deleted Telstra from home altogether. Only have mobiles with them now. On our home front we have been running a VOIP phone in paralell for a couple of years to make sure it didn't fail, and it hasn't. So, we've discontinued the Telstra landline and save $35 a month. The VOIP works really well. Calls to all Australian landlines are free, OS very very cheap, I talk regularly with a nephew in Houston, Texas  for half an hour or so and it costs under 50 cents. Most expensive part is calling mobiles but then not that bad. All this for a paltry $15 a month for the provider which is Engin. Apart from mobile its good to be away from Telstra.

Hi Terro ..

Just a point of interest mate .. I use Telstra for internet purposes and I use Skype for those important contacts.
I pay $60.00 for unlimited access (per year) to any Ozzie landlines too. The voice over internet protocol certainly has been beneficial to me for some years now as I used to speak with family when they spent time overseas also. The quality is now quite remarkable and for those that haven't experienced it, it's definitely worth looking into ..
Not even paying any monthly rates or fees is excellent, but I do use a head-set instead of a hand-phone and I do instigate the calls ( that suits me as I know when contact is possible) .. so there are these little differences that may or may not suit some folks.

.. for all to consider in your own circumstances ..

Sounds like a good idea Jon, but these things take up space on your account.
If you have a 1GB account for the month's use, skype phone calls take space, which can lead to being charged for overuse. Now that's NOT cheap.
We have to be very careful how we use these services and be very aware of how they're charged and the impact on your internet account.
If your monthly internet account is unlimited it's certainly a great, free means of communication.

Spot on Granny i have found that out ,also you need a laptop with lots of ram to support voip, no such thing has a free feed

.. that's quite correct .. my lappy has sufficient ram (3 GB) and I'm currently allowed 5GB (at half price for the first 12 months which equates to about $45.00 per month) .. after which I'll be dropping to 1 GB per month ..

I can imagine Jim .. I'm sure most people that have had an association with them would have their own stories to tell, myself included ..
Unfortunately, at the moment they seem to have the best available coverage ..

Your right Jonathan the reason we use Telstra they give the best coverage

That is the very reason we are with Telstra for mobile coverage. Tried Vodafone and they are about as useful as a handkerchief on a cold night. Coverage even on the major highways non existent. Didn't have a happy billing history with them either. As for internet we are with Bigpond on cable. I can't discuss about voip on laptop as I haven't gone there yet.

I departed Nth Richmond this morning .. Just arrived at Macquarie Woods (25 K's south of Bathurst ..

A few little pools of water lying about, but the roads are dusty and quite dry.
at the camping sites ..
Gradually, in the next day or so, I will head south towards Wodonga where I anticipate getting some radios fitted to my new MH ..
I'd like to stay at a good caravan site in or around Wodonga .. so if anyone is familiar with the area and could make a few suggestions, it would be appreciated ..
.. if not .. no harm done either .. Will just follow my nose ..

Incidentally, the reception here  for the net and TV is very good

I'm trying to make you jealous, JohnW (jandas fun)

it's working John, I'm pining for the "great outdoors" even though I'm in the "great outdoors", bit different when I'm at work though looking at it through air conditioned glass, jealous as buggery

but I can still see those big brownies jumping for my fly (fishing fly that is, no sexy fish over there) honey colored water gently trickling downstream over rocks and forming little waterfalls, birds and frogs everywhere, trees rustling, wishing like hell I was back there but Thommo wont take me with out giving him a great swag of money
