I stayed o/nite in March/April this year. Run down, takeaway food, fuel etc. When I asked if they had a powered site for the night the man and woman behind the counter exchanged a look. I said "that sounds ominous" They explained that mostly road workers stayed and hoped they didn't keep me awake at night.Of course they didn't. They start early and so bed early. They found me a site near the amenities (I only ever want water and power). Perhaps because I am a female on my own? Guys were nice No probs. Old enogh to be their mother....O/nite OK. All nice people...cheers Sue

there are a couple of parks at ballarat, we stayed at the one closest to sovereign hill, fantastic folks, great lawned sites with concrete pads, very clean very tidy, good amenities and walking distance to sovereign hill and the gold museum, we enjoyed every second of it

try to give Birchip a miss though

yep thats the one we stayed in, did you grab a pizza from the little shop on the way back

anyway there is a camp, free I think just out of birchip on the Wycheproof road, (c268) about 8 or 10 km's out, there is a sign post on the right,go past the day areas it's at the south end of the lake

if you have a gps then the coordinates are -36.00471 lat x 143.00036 long, a bit sandy but you should be fine, there are amenaties there but you gotta find the caretaker
