I spent a leisurely half hour at the "Rock"just North of Karuah nsw watching the traffic both North and Southbound on the Paciffic Hwy.To see the volume of Caravans and other Recreational vehicles on the road was a bit of an eye opener.One of the things that I did notice was the amount of caravans that were more than a few years old.most being towed by recent 4 wd tugs.Ah well just my observations.Better go now as my neighbour has put another batch of Home brew down.Cheers.Ibbo.

Hi Ibbo we are going to Ballina,staying at Casino at the end of this month for m/i/laws 97th birthday and annual catch up with the bosses family. Saw the 'rock' in the camps4 book whilst looking for a free camp or rest stop. Can you recommend it or any other around that area?

Hello Jandas.The Rock is a acommercial site i.e a servo,a few fast food outlets.For an over night kip if you park at the Southern end of the vast parking area you should have a decent nights rest.Further south but heading north near the Truck checking station you will find Twelve Mile Creek,this is a top spot to stop,loo's etc and safe.Just North of the turn off to the Rock about 500 or so is another stop,very quiet and away from people.Hope I have not confussed with my directions.Cheers.Ibbo.
yep I sit up here in my glass castle and watch the main north road, lots of different rigs goin to lots of different places, just like people all shapes and sizes, I'm just angry that one of them aint ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave it is one of lifes puzzles wondering where folk are going or coming from.Their trials and tribulations etc.One of the best features of the Forum is the amount of positive input.Oh well back to the shed and try to find something that needs fixing.Cheers.Ibbo.
Spent the week working in Port Lincoln and Whyalla, saw lots of caravans on the move. I checked out a couple of possible free camps between Arno Bay and whyalla;
Redbanks S33.53.648 E136.36.801 1K off the highway good dirt road.Right on the beach no facilities.
Poverty Bay S33.52.365 E136.40.517. 3 K's off the highway, last 1K quite rocky but OK. Again right on the beach but no facilities.
Where on earth would you only work for a week in Lincoln? Does the park at Kirton Point still take long-termers? I got the impression in 07 they were fazing them out, but they may have changed their minds. Big Sam Sarin owns it these days. I'd lived there on the slabs in the very early days 1977. In 07 I found the sites up the hill on the terraces a bit narrow for van and annexe. I was only there 2 weeks to catch up daughter number 2, but the narrow site would have been a nuisance if I'd set up the annexe.
