The Horses Tail

The chase is finally over, and theyre inside drinking grog,
and Im tied up to the rail , and left there like a dog.

Old Harrison is slapping backs, and handing drinks all round,
While the blowflies give me hell and my blood drips on the ground.

Yes I wheeled the mob to bring back the colt from Old Regret,
But sliding down that mountain is something Ill never forget.

Clancy reigned his horse in, though he led the stockmens pack,
but I was spurred by the butcher on my back.

The brumbies all went over, they took a desperate chance,
as they fled in mindless fear of the stockmens quick advance.

No one will tell you how some died, as battered bloody wrecks,
How the foals were trampled under, with broken legs and necks.

I came down in a long mad slide, though gouged by rocks and stones,
You may say I was lucky to escape without broken bones,

Most of my tail was torn out when I snared it on a stump,
and Ive a piece of a tree stump protruding from my rump.

Yes I went on to wheel the mob though cut by whip and spur,
For Im a mountain horse myself, and no one can call me cur.

I was limping badly when I bought them to the yard,
But my rider showed no mercy and he still spurred me hard.

Harrison was beside himself that wed brought back his stud,
But no one noticed the heros trousers were spattered with my blood.

They yelled the man from Snowy River as they gave a cheer,
They all went inside to feast on food and rum and beer.

That is all except for Clancy no one noticed him of course,
cos Clancy wasnt the hero hed stopped to save his horse.

He is the drover of the old school a man whod kept his pride,
But there wasnt one there man enough to say he couldnt ride.

Clancy unclenched his fist his face was ghastly white,
I could see he was angry and mad enough to fight.

Well I couldnt work it out but how could I understand,
So I dropped there at the rails with the flies and blood and sand.

Clancy came back with a rifle, stopped to scratch my ears,
He said its all right old fellow and in his eyes theres tears.

I know hes come to give relief in the only way he can,
And if this story is ever told Id say that Clancy was the man.

Hi DD

Don't get me wrong I enjoy bush poetry that's why I suggested a separate section on this forum. ABP, HL, and others had a great sense of humour and really captured Australian rural life in the late 19th century.

Makes you think about the pommie poems that we listened to when we were kids,Jack and Jill......how many wells were at the" top "of hills,Humpty Dumpty.ah well that can open a can of worms,was he pushed or did he fall,Mary had a little Lamb....was it a Kiwi had a little lamb.Going back to Jack and Jill what were they doing wandering with a pail looking for water?Old King Cole a Merry Old Soul.........I bet he was,looking for his pipe and his three accountants.fiddlers three.The poor bloody Mouse running up the clock,clock struck one and the poor mouse was done.Mary,Mary quiet contrary,well Mary justwhat were you growing in your garden?that made you so contrary?.Blimey I wont go into the Owl and the Pussycat and their Peagreen Boat...Time for bed Ibbo.might go to "U. On that note we dare not mention Noddy. Too many double meanings to interpret there too. So many it was sensored. Weird.

Aaah yes........!! The old Jack Horner watching Little Miss Fatty Muffet.........I think they had some great times...................swapping with Jack and Jill..............or was Jack Horner the Jack from Jack and Jill or the Jack from Jack and the beanstalk..........................maybe one and the same. Boy did he get around??................................great stories

Never heard Captain Pugwash Basil............was it a radio show?? Sounds like a hoot!!

Noddy was cool. Always within the law?

They were very bloodthirsty poems Ibbo. Probably explains why we are the way we are. I'm sure all that maiming and killing by the Road Runner and the Coyote had some effect on me.
Elmer Fudd was no better. I haven't stolen a carrot since I saw those shows.........now my eyesight is not 100%....................talk about ruining your life.

Cap'n Pugwash was a hoot of a TV show.

Aimed at kiddies but with enough wit and double entendre to keep the Mummies and Daddies amused too. (If they had the intracranial wherewithall to notice wink )

I love cartoons! Always an adult slant on what the kids love, and always funny.
Foghorn Leghorn is one of my faves, and all the Warner Brothers cartoons - innocent, funny, clever, but with a cheeky slant.
I also enjoy animated features. The story, the technical work to produce them, the voices of actors in a totally different environment, the comedy. Ice Age, Ants, and Shrek of course.

DD, it was a BBC kiddies show that was shown regularly on our Auntie.
