Thats one hell of a trip if you intend staying with the river. Should be interesting.

I have just returned from Broken Hill, via Cobar, Bourke and Walgett, and the road is good bitumen. Lots of Roo's about.

Bourke has just opened (while I was there) a new 'Back O Bourke' visitors centre. I did not get to go through as it was the opening ceremony, but seems worth a visit from what I was able to see.

Should be hot enough now, if you like it that way.

Love Wentworth. It has one of the best caravan parks in the world, right on the river. The Wentworth Club is also very nice and very welcoming to visitors as is the Coomealla Club just down the road towards Mildura. The Wentworth club does a great "all you can eat" for about 20 bucks a head. I think Fri, Sat and Sun nights.

We usually spend a couple of nights at the caravan park and then head out of town past the airport on the old Renmark road about 25k's or so. Over the Darling Annabranch and just at the first grid turn left and follow the fenceline down (on the wentworth side) to the river. There are some great spots down there to free-camp on the river. Good fishing and nice shady spots. Great areas to walk and explore.

The old jail is worth a look. They had a paddle steamer (The Coonawarra) tied up there that used to do day trips but it is no longer running but the locals are re-building their own (I think it is called the Wentworth) and it should be up and running now. Or if not, then real soon.

We like that area and it is easy to spend a lot of time looking around. Lots of wineries and friendly locals. Worth the effort.

We are off to Bourke and Longreach in July Two Bob. Plan to go up through Birdsville and the back way to Longreach and then come back via Bourke and head across to Tibboburra, Camerons Corner and home via the Strezlecki. Looking forward to that!!

Hehehehe Yep..............112 is not really what we need :)

There'll be either 3 or 4 cars (two in each) going. Boys only........... Coming??

We'll take your advice on the steak dinner. Thanks for that. It's always good to have places recommended.

Yep Justcruisin.............I love the place.

There's a nice walk on the other side of the river next to the hospital onto an island that sits at the junction of the two rivers. Just so full of birds of all different types and my wife would just love to sit there and have them practically land on her.

The caravan park wasn't too expensive either from memory.

Camre down from Broken Hill to Wentworth a few weeks ago on the bitumen didn't go the river side. A pleasant trip. I'd forgaotten what a pretty place Wentworth is. The park that Jim Just Cruisin mentioned is beaut and the sand dunes are worth a visit. Only stayed there in a motel a few years ago and did a houseboat holiday up the Darling in the mid 80's. Brilliant. The club was good but do'nt know how it is now. All in all worth a look.

Yeah........I forgot about the sand hills just out of town. Can't even remember the name of them but there sure was some big trees growing out of the middle of them.

Sir Terro............did you see many goats along the road when you came down?

We travelled up and down the Silver City h/way in May and there were hundreds of goats along the road and across it.

Welcome to the Grey Nomads Chris & Terry.
Your heading brought a smile to me, as I remembered a ventriloquist and his "dummy" called Terry.
Chris began his career in Adelaide, but moved to Sydney where they enjoyed a very successful career.
I have visions on one of you sitting on the lap of the other with a hand up your back. Sorry. I couldn't help it.
Anyway, welcome, and enjoy your travels.

Not a goat in site. Quite a few woolie things though. Over the whole trip to Uluru, Alice Springs and back the whole place was bereft of wildlife. I did get pretty angry one night but nowhere near wild. Not enough of the good stuff perhaps.
