When to visit Tassy

We were thinking of doing Tassy Mar-Jun,
I have looked at avg temperatures for that period and they don't look that bad but kerry doesn't like the real cold weather.
When would you go?

We lived on the NW Coast near Savage River for 12 months and during the months you have mentioned it did get really cold on some days. The thing is that if you know it is going to be cold you dress ready for the cold.My sister lives at Ross and she does say that it is a little chilly down her way.The weather in Tassie is all part of what makes it a great place to visit.I would go whatever it was like.Hope I have been a little helpful.Cheers.Ibbo.

we've been three times now all on different occasions, mostly over november to febuary but we intend to go back during a winter

if you know what the temps are going to be then you prepare for it, staying in a powered van park will give you access to warmth through your own heater

many of the roads in winter can be iced up and any treks you take may be closed as in mount wellington because of ice and blizzards so actually getting to scenic spots may not be an option,. a lot of free camps around the lakes will not be available as most are built on a peaty soil and you will bog

I know the western tiers road is often blocked through ice and snow through winter and if we couldnt drive that highway I wouldnt bother going to Tassie

when we go again it will be in spring/summer again I think and we will take a trip in winter one year but we will go fly drive accomodation package, I think Tassie in spring/autumn would be beautifull and absolutely alive with color but Tassie at any time is amazing if you know the spots

Feb - March is the most stable weather period throughout Tas. The period you are considering is moving into the winter so you can reasonably expect some cold, particularly on the West Coast and in the highlands. As others have said if you dress for the expected weather you can't go wrong. You will love it no doubt about that.
We have been on the road for 6 months now from Tas and are really looking forward to returning Oct '10.

Cheers

Lynds

About 6 years ago we were camped at lake St Clair on boxing day. Overnight had about 1" snow, was good as kerry had never seen snow before.
As everyone has said , if we dress to the weather we should be fine.

Tasmania is always lovely no matter when you go. But in mid-winter the days are very short. It limits sight-seeing time, even though the temperature may be mild.

Just a thought. Enjoy your trip!

The only time we have visited Tassie was in Feb about 15 years ago. The weather was superb. The days long and the water at Boat Harbour beach was beaut. We did a circuit of the island, only 12 days, not caravanning, so we didn't really do it all justice but enough to want to return again. One memory that sticks out is a cruise on the Arthur River. Another was Russell Falls near New Norfolk.

We did 6 months over there - Oct-April. Suggest Jan-April best for you. By April, there is a real chill in the night air, and days are getting shorter. But the autumn colours are lovely. Jan-Feb- March you should be able to do some great sightseeing in the higher parts, and on the west coast.
