Why is it so special or "brave" if women choose to travel?
Why is it more special if they choose to do it in campervan, caravan or motorhome?
No different than the guys doing it, alone or with a partner.
It takes a certain type of spirit to make a dream a reality, no matter what it is.
Our dream just happens to be travelling.

Not brave or Special Chris.From my point of view it takes guts.Be it male or female not much difference,except that in my opinion a female setting out as a solo traveller has to be admired.Just a male thing I guess,maybe because I was always brought up to respect and protect women.Cheers.Ibbo.

Not thought about it before because Rosemary has always and will always be there with me and vice versa. But, stop for a moment and give it some thought. Scary. I don't know how I would be without my life partner, travelling alone. I don't want to find out really. Apart from that thought if you have been a "single" all your life wouldn't it be just another of life's things you are achieving?

Thanks guys. I for one appreciate the thoughts.
I guess I've been on my own so long I don't think about it. That's since 1982 with a couple of false starts between then and now.
If I want to do something, and it's within my capabilities and budget, I do it.
I can change the tyres of both vehicles, and the light bulbs, take my own rubbish out, mow lawns if I have to, and I have a well-equipped tool box - you know, spanners, pliers, hammer, shifters etc. Smart asses!

If all else fails Christine, I find a hammer, chisel and a pair of pliers.........usually covers most of it..............

When I first ran away with 2 kids, a cat and the budgie I used a kitchen knife or nail file as screw drivers, and a tweezers and scissors to do lots of things. You should have seen all the frilly tipped knives the drawer.
I've come a l-o-n-g way since then.
I can even change spark plugs, grind valves etc, which is totally bloody useless in a diesel.
I know bugger all about injectors, but I can still diagnose even if I can't fix.
It's a handy skill to have, and saves heaps of money when it comes to paying a mechanic to "fix that noise".

I'm with Chris. No big deal about going it alone, we just get on with it and enjoy the experience. Even when I had a husband, I was the one who got most things done. That annoyed him no end! " Bloody independent woman!" was the usual response.
In the Doncaster park in Melbourne now, until mid March when I will again head north. Was not in "the plan" but my son is moving from Groote to Cairns in Jan and haven't seen him and new partner for 3 years.
Where are all the Nomads when I am travelling? Apart from Granny's I haven't seen a GN sticker between here and FNQ. Hope to rectify that on my next trip.

Oh, Guru & Ma have sticker and grey ribbons everywhere. You can't miss 'em.
I haven't seen any others either, but then I'm grounded.

For your sake Chris I hope you are not still there in April when I get back up there, but if you are will definitely catch up. I hope all goes well whenever you have your surgery and in the meantime have a great Christmas. Melbourne 39 yesterday, cool and wet today but I am comfortable here with the creek and bush behind me and plenty to do.

Hey ladies and gents. Good on you gals for going it alone. I lost my partner early last year, and have just decided to downgrade my big van for a smaller one that I can manage easily on my own. I would like to pick up on our dream and keep travelling. Is there a forum for singles on the road for when they actually get moving? I'm thinking of going to WA late next year when my new van is ready for pick-up. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Jan

I was full of 'fears' when I started out 12 mths ago, on my own! I have found that that is all it is. They all turned out to be ungrounded. Life is nowhere near as scary as your mind makes it out to be. (Or other people).
Hence the saying 'feal the fear and do it anyway'. No regrets here, still the preferred choice for now.
