Hi everybody. We went to look at a Goldstream off-road Pop-top caravan this weekend, and Derek was rather impressed. Does anybody have one, or know anything about them that we should know before making the big decision???
I have a Goldstream 2002 "Goldcrown" ("Off-road" model) wind-up camper which I bought second hand last year and so far I've been very happy with it. It has independent suspension with shock absorbers. The later models are fitted with coil springs (mine are leaf, but not slipper). Note however that independent suspension is an option so check this out.
Since buying it I've done two trips from Newcastle to Cairns but have done very little off the blacktop so far.

Jim, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that piccy was taken at the Fountain Caravan Park at Eden on the NSW south coast?

Thanks Jim. The one we looked at was the "Cutaway", and the dealer said he'd taken one like it over the Gibb River Road. One always takes dealers claims with a grain or 2 of salt, hence my query. The dealer was in Eden, so you didnt get far before taking the pic!!!
Derek still wants to check out the Eco-tourer before making a commitment. Any comments on those?

It sure was.
It was taken May last year (08). I purchased the rig privately in Balnarring Vic and was bringing it back home to Newcastle. I decided to come back via the coast, pulled into Eden for the night, stayed four. Very much on my must go back list. Will stay at the Fountain again too.
The Gibb River Road story is quite possibly "kosher". The Goldstream people showed me pictures of some of their units in similar places including Cape Leveque (N of Broome) at the Rosehill show last year (2008). They asserted that they would honour a warranty claim on their "Off-road" units anywhere in Australia. I don't know whether anyone has put that to the test.
Re the Eco Tourer, I believe they are now manufactured in China. Whether that's good or bad I don't know. Don't know much else about them.

My partner Rosie's brother...bought a new Goldstream crown..last year..drove.from Adelaide ....hes up north of WA.....kananara??...not sure how its spelt....not had a problem with it yet
We had an off-road Goldstream Link for 8 years, travelling over many outback and bush roads/tracks without any issues. We had no hesitation 3 years ago in upgrading to a Goldstream Cutaway, though we did look around but kept coming back to the Cutaway.
We are basically bush campers, spending most of our time outdoors enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the bush. Our Cutaway is heavily optioned up, particularly with regard to 12v, from the base model (see http://tinyurl.com/ygtdrrh).
For one reason or another we have not done as much travelling as we would have liked since getting the Cutaway. However we have done the Darling River Run/Mungo NP, a number of trips into the Victorian High Country, and a fair bit of dirt road touring both in Victoria and western NSW.
To date we have had no issues of any description with the van and are very happy Goldstream customers that are very comfortable in the bush.
