hi everyone we have put down our deposit on our crusader manhatten last week 6 months still s*** loads to do before were off Q. if you are staying in a van park a storm hits and there is no power can you use a generator? cheers heaps
Roger itwould depend on just how long the power is off for.If you need power for medical reasons then you really don't have a choice. If you need power for cooking or pleasure that would not be a good idea.Imagine if the other campers all started their genies up it would be like an Aerodrome at peak hour.I guess it all boils down to personal choice and a dose of Commonsense.Congratulations on your new Van,I guess you will be like a couple of kids waiting for Xmas Morning.Cheers.Ibbo.
Your van will have plenty of alternative ways of cooking etc. lighting, we carry a couple of rechargeable lamps or you could just plug the tug in! Fridge goes on gas, what else. not much. We don't carry a genny and at the moment see no reason to. My thoughts entirely and not made lightly as I have been guided by SWMBO in these things.

Battery pack . i think you will find all new vans the lights work off 12 volt via battery pack has Terro said you have gas for fridge and gas stove i am yet to find the need for a genny but i dont have any medical needs our radio and cd player also runs off battery pack . If your new van doesnt have a battery pack sell the genny and get a battery pack allows you to free camp
My slant on this subject is - If you have a genny, use it if you must, but be very mindful of others. Everybody has different ways of living & different needs. I cannot understand why anyone who has a genny is automatically classed as the " enemy ". I can understand that some people "use & abuse". I dont think I would use my Genny if the power went out, but I might....

You know when your landing gear is up & locked, when it takes full power just to taxi to the terminal.........
bloody good question, bottom line, I'm buggered if I know, I have, in all my years, never come across this problem
if you had a battery pack then that would solve it along with gas for the fridge but a lot of vans and fifth wheelers nowadays are coming out with more and more gear that cant be run of either 12volt or gas
in which case I would say yes you could run your genny until the power came back
those with genny's are not "the enemy" I own and carry a 1000 watt genny in squeeky, it has never been started "out there" but can easily be
"the enemy" are those drongoes who simply MUST run the thing when every body else is on "quiet" time, genny's are fine, some owners are not!
I dont label them all the same! there are huge differences!
Where has this idea that vanners with a genny are the "enemy". Never heard so much SH one T in my life. We all carry different equipment for our different styles of camping.

The only time I've seen gennies allowed in parks was in Broome after TC Rosita blew the town to hell in 2000. Sharing BBQ's with neighbours was at an all-time high. There was no power to many parts of town for 10 days while Western Power checked all the infrastructure stage by stage. The power went past the park twice - on the way into town from the Power station, and on the way back. The park was the last place to check on the line on the way back to the station, only 1km from the park. Prevailing winds took the noise away, most of the time. Usually if the power fails it's only for a short time. Not long enough to defrost the fridges. The short time on 12v lights won't flatten the battery. Some parks have a back up genset. This park does. I'm sure if the power was out for more than 6 hours they could allow generators for certain hours of the day, when it would cause the least disturbance to fellow campers. Also consider your neighbours as you would at free camps. At this time of the year in the tropics there are very few people in the park, so the chance of disturbance would be minimal.

I could imagine that that would be you.....??

A Victorian I am and proud of it. We have the best beer, the best football teams, the best coastline and any othewr bests you can think of. One thing I don't have though is a genny. So, how, Mr Duck, can I run it and become "the enemy?" You'll be off my Christmas card list if your not careful!!!!!!!!!!!
