Milo, I actually have Gracie trained to sit in the back of the car with the glass rear door up with a water bowl. Also I sometimes simply tie her up at a convneient post near the shops. Did you make sense of the training manual? Things that I want to look at - I ask if they will let me take my dog with me and if your dog is friendly I have found most places seem happy to let your dog go with you, National Parks are the only real problem. The other sometimes less practical option is to book pooch into a Kennel for the day

Hi Milo I travel on my own - except of course I am not as I have my boys with me!
Luckily being in a campervan with a hi roof, sliding windows and a wind up roof air vent as well it has to be VERY hot before it gets too hot for Whippets - Hi roof/pop top vans take a great deal longer to heat up than a car.
Still there are of course a lot of precautions to take like: plenty of water 'cool coats' or cool mats a 12vlt fan blowing on the boys sola screens on the front/rear windscreens and on the 2 front door windows
If I am going to shops where the boys cannot come I weigh up the suitability of the area before tying them out.
Make up my mind exactly what I want - go straight in and get it, check the boys, go back for another foray!
A lot of places do let you sit outside with your dog/s.
Drove around the top of WA and down the coast with two dogs back in 2006 and following these precautions and my main precaution of always parking in shade of some sort - even if it does mean a serious walk! and I had no trouble at all.
Of course on a 40 degree + day one simply makes the decision that whatever it is you thought you wanted at the shops can wait until the next day!
Actually with Whippets my problem is the reverse - how do I keep them warm enough when I am down South, how do I get Clancy's coat off him so his skin can breathe at least once a day!! lol

I had a similiar thread up and hadn't seen this one. Thanks for all the advise Pawsoz. I will take that on board too. Punky is so little, In a pop top Hi ace, and parked in a cool spot with a good bowl of water and a fan going she would be ok while I grocery shopped.
