Wouldn't it be fitting if this went completely around the world!...
John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little girl's entire family was executed. The in sargents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head...but they failed to kill her. She was cared for in John's hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan. The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing.
He is a real Star of the war, and the hero of peace.
This, my friends, is worth sharing.. Go for it!! You'll never see things like this in the news. Please keep this going. Every person can make a difference in the life of someone even if it is one little girl.
I copied this from the email as it was posted to me, I felt it was worth people seeing.Note the head wound on the child.

Great stuff Monica. Thse unsung heroes need the publicity. We are too good at reporting the latest destruction of this and that. These stories really do need airing. Thank you for putting it up.
Terro.

Look out Monica, you've opened another can of worms.
Who cares if it's a myth or not. It's a nice thing to do, comforting a child.

It doesnt matter Ma, I thought the picture should be shared, I would like to think that someone would comfort my child or grandchild if the need arose.

I just the story the picture tells. It shows human compassion and love and there is so little of that in this world, its nice to see. Lifts the heart so to speak.

The whole story is worth the read. It makes us realise who the real losers are in all wars.
I looked at the Snopes report on the story and what I saw says it says it is true!
I don't know where the "myth" comes into it, apart maybe for the Nobel Prize bit.
I think that part even is just wishful thinking.
Looks to be a heartwarming, compassionate action on his part anyway. I am sure he doesn't want to be there as probably 90% of the soldiers there don't.
Cheers

My original post (above) has several question marks after the word Myth for good reason.
I put the link to the Snopes story hoping that fellow "forumites" would go there to check it out, as the Snopes article not only very clearly establishes that the story is true in all aspects but provides more details. I found it quite moving, especially the photograph.
At the top of the item there is a large green "bullet" and the word "True" in large green type. That was the surprise I was referring to as most of these sorts of stories are concoctions and this one is very much an exception.
Nice one Jim,you certainly made me have a look at the Snopes site,I was expecting something like "Dont be taken by this".A most pleasant and up lifting surprise.Made me realise once again,"Look before you leap".Thanks Jim.Cheers.Ibbo.
I received that e-mail quite a long time ago, so that soldier is probably back in the US by now. I cant help wondering how he feels having to leave that little girl behind... and how she is now.
Nice story Monica, cripes don't you just hate wars and what it does to all those involved, brings out the worst and best in many, but still a waste of life. The civilian population always seems to be the biggest losers.
