I found this book in K-Mart today, it has all the info you would ever need on the road for each state, maps are Australia wide with info on all either rest stops, low cost van parks and the like. Each stop has a triangle with a number and then you look up that number under each states' map and it gives heaps of info, like pet friendly places or not, dump points, drinking water and etc. There are 3500 listings and also gives GPS co-ordinates, it came in at $54 but well well worth it.
Thanks for that, I thought I would tell the new members like me about it, I never knew that it was even out. I just chanced onto it when I was looking through all the fishing stuff in K-Mart and saw them at ankle level, I thought they only had fishing mags there. Just leafing through it I made up my mind to get one of those top of the line Magellan Triton 2000 traveller pack GPS'. I wonder also if anyone also carries an ePIRB units just in case of emergencies.
Don't worry about it Joebee - I didn't know about them until I was given V4 when I retired. Now after almost two years the pages are wearing a bit thin. Great book - never leave home without it.
No harm in mentioning it again Joebee. Many newer members and visitors to the forum will find this useful.
At the risk of repetition I'll also mention again the the publishers also put out a similar volume, Caravan Parks Australia Wide, that I find very useful. Check out www.campsaustraliawide.com
Also POI files mentioned above are available for a number of different GPSs and cost $19.95 which I consider to be good value, phone (07) 5449 1476 to arrange a download.
Another site that may be worth bookmarking is the National Public Toilet Map as these are often located at the roadside rest and camp spots. Don't laugh with a bladder like mine this is serious stuff! GPS marks are available here too.
We have the book and POI installed into the GPS. Another site worth mentioning again is http://ozcamps.net, it also has a POI file for yopur GPS and its free.
Howdy people Has any one used the camp 5 poi in explorist 400 gps ? I have not tried to load any thing into it at this point, last time I tried to load any thing into a gps it never worked a gain, so I am a bit weary to do it a gain. AL
if you contact the POI distributors they will tell you how it will go, they are a great couple of blokes and have a mile of patience (they needed it with me and my garmin nuvi)
We are new members just starting to get ourselves organised to start the BIG journey. I hadnt seen that book before so thankyou for the great information.
I bought my Camps 5 from RACQ as I am a member, they gave it to me at a discount rate. I see it is on RACQ online for $54.95. Its just the greatest Bible one can have.
Welcome to the forum Kerri- you will enjoy the company of this forum immensley its a wonderful group of like minded folk and all very helpful. -- Edited by Dawn on Sunday 17th of January 2010 12:47:23 PM

Thankyou all. We are in the process of selling everything up, property etc and getting ready to start the rest of our lives so to speak. Very exciting, but very scary as well. We hope to be on the road by mid next year.
Hopfully reading here and talking to people such as yourselves will help ease us into our new life.
Welcome Kerri, it's a great bunch oh very helpfull people in here, I too am new to here but love reading all the articles in each category no matter what. I have a while before I retire being 56, but it's never too early to start planning and getting things ready. We won't sell the home as we want to be able to come back to something when age finally catches up to us and not be able to be on the road.
