I personally would like to see one every year or maybe twice a year, I reckon one in my backyard (the mighty flinders) would be great, then one on the fleiurio (spelling) then one the blue mountains

keep it going for years I reckon! this is not mine it is chris and robbies and ma's and all of us combined, if we want it we can make it happen!

I wholeheartedly agree, it doesn't matter if only 3 or 4 turn up each year.

Just a thought , for those like myself who donot have access to the net when travelling maybe we could give our mobile number to a trusted friend on the forum who could perhaps phone us when a destination and date is decided upon.

All of these suggestions are great. Keep the kettle boiling. I have mentioned our meetings to friends who don't have computer access at all and they are interested so I will keep them informed. Also some other friends have a group they travel with and the whole group may even come to the Mudgee one. So keep the word spreading. All we have to do is set a date, set a venue and go from there. This is great.

Yes Milo, Mudgee is dog friendly as Reza said, on a lead. Don't know about the one's in Flinders, you will have to ask Dave which one it's going to be and whether they are pet friendly. Would probably be a good idea if one that was is chosen as a lot of us travel with our pets.

for some a realy great idea is to purchase a laptop and you can buy a stick in woolies and plug it into your laptop and get internet, after you purchase it apparently you can just keep updating the stick, its like credit on your phone, we didnt have the net in our shop at jewellers
so we got the stick, then after we inserted it into the usb and used what we had we just went and bought more internet time.

alas i have heard that its not all that cheap i think the stick was a 100 dollars to start with and then the net to buy after that ,it does come with some internet to begin with but runs out.

I hope im making sense, anyway we have internode as our server here at home its a fantastic server, very fast, efficient and you actualy get english speaking people when you have problems with your net , which never happen much anyways.

Direct debited from account works a treat. Im sure some of you or most of you are aware that you can get one of these internet sticks, but just in case you never know hey?.

Glassies we have Internode has our Isp they are great and the service could not do better , they only do wireless internet around Adelaide . we use a wireless dongle for our laptop when away from home with Telstra prepaid because they have the best coverage and speed but very expensive, we do not do big downloads like photos and software updates . Am thinking of get a cheaper wireless dongle from vodaphone which uses the optus network to use in built up areas and just use Telstra when out of range, we have two mobile phones for the same reason use optus and only Telstra were necessary

Stayed at Rawnsley Park 25 years ago and loved it. Should be better now. It is about 20 kms before Wilpena Pound, Ma. Suggested it early in the 'confusion' of where to go.

Thanks for that info glassies but unfortunately the pension which is our only source of income will not stretch that far and my Laptop is about 10 years old and very slow, only use it to store photos if the 2 gig card in my camera gets full and my darling wife puts the Japanese shutterbugs to shame.

JRH, there is nothing wrong with an older laptop. I have one myself, as backup. People make the mistake that older computers are of less value.

I will argue that these are as quick and as useful, for internet use.

One of the biggest issues is that over time they have so much 'junk' on them that they are slow. A clean install of the operating system fixes that

The old operating system is still 'good enough'. You can be limited to older software, but hell, for basic use, internet, email, microsoft office (group), photo's, etc, once you learn yours, why change/upgrade.

Why I say all this is, if your 'old' laptop has a 'wireless' connection, you can use free connections on the road, Some are town Libraries, most are like your convenience companies ie, McDonalds. There are lots of others.

If your does not come standard with it, there are wireless cards to install it. Bit of mucking around but once done, alls well

There will always be a limit to age of the computer, but this is limited to the compatability of the software to the operating system. For example, the latest browsers will not work on W2K operating system, as they no longer support W2K. Generally, you should be right for as long as you wish to, before doing a major upgrade.

So get that 'old' laptop out, dust it off, and go on the road

I agree completely with what bob has said and would just add one thing, if you have the time go and do a computer repair course through tafe or private

this will enable you to not only maintain and improve your current computer but it will let you build a new one at a fraction of the cost

my computer failed twice in two years, each time costing me between $1,000 and $1,200, I looked at the parts list that had been replaced and found that these parts are readily available on ebay for a quarter of what I was charged

the last time my putey died, power surge, I completely rebuilt it myself starting from a new power supply, it's not hard John and it's a hell of a good hobby

the only drama I had was that I didnt install a floppy drive and didnt make a "startup disc" this created a small drama but even that was overcome

there is a lot of info on how to build a computer on youtube, in fact there is info on everything in there, just go and have a nose

Thanks for all the info I will certainly look into it.

Not a problem building or repairing the computer, son and myself do so quite regularly.

I did a Tafe course back in the early 80's and learned to programme, in fact a friend and myself used to write programmes for the Malibu special School in Rockingham.

The internet is something I need to learn a lot more about as when I did my course it was hardly ever mentioned, in fact the WWW wasn't going anf the Tafe did not hold any courses on that at all.

okay as for visiting the flinders there really is no bad time although summer gets a wee bit warm, the best time for wildflowers, greenery and billabongs is probably between august to december but that is dependant on climatic conditions (big names for if it rains or not)

Rawnsley park is a privately owned camp ground placed just below rawnsley bluff with very good facilities although not 5 star,....... http://www.rawnsleypark.com.au/ it is run by a lovely couple whom I am proud to call freinds, Tony and Julieanne Smith, apparentluy they are the fourth generation to own and run the property

it is set just outside of the national park but is within easy reach of all that wilpena has to offer including first class scenery, restaraunts, the poddy dodgers bar, views and walks to die for

I would recomend a stay there and most certainly a group gathering would be most welcome, there is a restaraunt on the grounds (the woolshed) and a pool for guests, it is dog freindly and fires are welcome in pits provided all year round

unlike wilpena a few drinkies with laughter after 8 pm is quite okay, wilpena frowns on any noise, however this does not make rawnsley an "open" park it is a very quiet and well controlled environment

we could make a gathering for 2011 in the spring a definate possibility

G'day Dave0, We will be in, sounds like a magic place, time is about right also. For us may we suggest August to September, we have to be in New Zealand in December 2011 for our 50th anniversary and my sisters 60th birthday, both on the same day 23 Dec.

Spring sounds good to, at least for me, hot weather and I don't mix real well.
