Glass is banned in the OKA due to weight, with the exception of 1 bottle of our favorite bubbly that we store in a zip up wet suit cover to protect it.
Wine is chateau de cardboard. The bladder for the white goes into a tupperware 'square-round' in the fridge door.
Scotch and port gets decanted into PET plastic bottles.
You can now buy good 750ml South Australian red in plastic bottles.
Beer is cans only, unfortunately, but I know of people who do home-brew on the road and bottle it into PET screw top bottles.
It's sad but true but a cask of red& a cask of white seem to be the go there is a foil pack of wine available that is real good, Marlborough sav- blanc and its wortha try if you see it,definitly comes from the sunnyside of the vineyard
When I set up the Waeco as a deep freeze I was wondering what to do with my esky. It's now the wine cabinet. It contains my Bundy, mineral water, and some wine in the shower cubicle. It's on that non-stick sheeting, and stays where I put it. I put plastic bottles between the glass, with an old towel as well. No breakages so far. I don't use the shower, and I can get to the loo. Alcohol is not the major item I carry. Some, but not much.

Last trip we used the cardboard bottle carriers from Safeway, nicely wedged on floor with unbreakables around. e.g. washing bucket, box of softdrink cans, small car fridge. when we travelled. Didn't spill a drop.
Also stored a few bottles picked up in the Barossa, nestled in with the off season clothes under the bed.
I took along 15ltr of my home made bourbon when we started this trip but I think the plastic drum has a leak because there is only a few litres left now...or maybe a few less happy hours may help..hmmmm...don't like the sound of that

best way is drink it on the day less weight
Normally don't have a problem with that. For the trip have made 6 x1.5L bottles of bourbon, might be a bit much in 1 night.

if you go to a wine shop Gary and ask for the foam wine rack, that can be placed in the bottom of a cupboard or whatever and it encapsualtes the bottles, used to be able to get them from super cheap stores as wll
Ha Ha,Two Bob I bet you don't drink any of that Escapulates grog that eats bottles.See what the Glass Palace does to ones mind.Which reminds me ,you must be on your last days Reaping etc.Dave06.Cheers,Bob,Cheers,Dave06.
two or three left mate then I'm home for a little while!
Put the feet up with a nice coldy to help with the heat, heaven. Paradise would be beside some babbling brook in the shade and not a soul, other than you and the dragon, to be seen or heard.

I'm not sure about listening to Brook babbling while trying to enjoy a quiet, that's QUIET drink in the shade, or anywhere for that matter. Prefer the first option - "not a soul" -
I haven't brewed Bundy yet, but a mate of mine did until health stopped him in his tracks. He gave his supply away. Yes, GAVE it away. He still has a small wooden keg full of his personal brew. He can't part with the keg, and the brew keeps the wood wet and sealed. I might have to have a word. I still like that Red Label Bunday - sooooooo smooooooooth.

Yep I suppose Brook Babbling could send one off to sleep especially with that smooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth Red Label, probably drink more so you couldn't hear her any more and the tinkling of the babbling brook could make you do just that.
I believe I read somewhere that Red Label was difficult to get in the bottle shop in Queensland, is that correct Chris?

where is your next stop Gary i may meet you on the way lol
No set plans Reza. Unfortunately I've had my wheels clamped here in Cairns while I attend to some faulty body parts. When I leave I'm not sure if I'll point the Cruiser's Smart Bar west or south, or some of each. It will depend on time of year, and where folks are at the time. I'll be making my way towards SA but not sure what route I'll be taking.
And for all you cheeky buggers out there, that was ROUTE, as in way to travel, not who to travel with.

When we first bought our van we noted that there was a smallish area under the cafe bench seat and above the wheel arch which really fitted nothing so I went to a friend who works in styrofoam. He cut a piece which just fits the space and it has 16 holes which surprisingly just fit the average wine bottle. 8 white 8 red. On their side and protected from forward movement by folded dbl sleeping bag. Weight has been balanced by carrying less water.
Kevin.Welcome to the Rat house.A better bunch of folk you will never find.Enjoy the Forum and don't be shy coming forward..should I have said "ever" find.oh well, can't win 'em all.Cheers.Ibbo.
when I finish here John we are nicking off to the smoke for a week, we are booked into an inner city flash hi-rise joint with spa and we dont figure on coming out for the foreseeable future
it has everything in the hotel including shopping and dining
John and Lynne are coming with us, Lynne has an appointment with one of the specialist quacks, possible small problem but nothing serious
we are taking little R.J. to the zoo to see the pandas, got an "all areas pass" so she can get close to the pandas and go feed some animals as well, we will ride the new trams out to the beach and take a look at the central market, cure the shopping addiction in the mall, you know, do all the touristy things
but that stream under the gum tree will be in the near future, if we have time when we take John and Lynne home to Cessnock (mid feb to mid march) I think we may find that spot and just sit and contemplate our navels for a wee while

Go for it Dave0, I reckon youv'e earned it, a little R&R will do you the world of good and recharge the batteries and if you do have the time to find that stream and gum tree make full use of it.
If you can make that wee while a longer while so much the better, I reckon the Dragon will appreciate the break also.

I wish to announce Red Label Bundy Rum is liberally available in most bottle shops in Cairns. I've only shopped at BWS and Dan Murphys, and that's enough for me. The caravan park is across the road from the Balaclava Pub and Dan Murphys, and there are 2 BWS outlets in the Stockland Shopping Centre 5 mins walk up the road from the park. Why are some thing so simple, and yet others are so hard? I don't drink a lot, but I do love a good drop when I feel like indulging in a brew. A wine from somewhere in Oz, a mid-strength of Hahn Light, or Bundy with ginger beer. Come on in. It must be "beer o'clock" somewhere.
