As of the second week in Feb 2010 we will be heading north from the Gold Coast via the Warrego hwy, Landsborough hwy , Barkley hwy to the Stuart Hwy up as far as Mataranka & out to the Roper .
Do we have any members near to or likely to be travelling this area at this time ?

Went though there in 2008 to Winton then onto Charters Towers , after all this rain it all should be looking good at the moment ,heading up the middle of Queensland to Atherton Tablelands in June then back down that road in September
I would wait til it stops raining, usually late march or april as its bloody humid and a lot of the roads are closed or in bad condition. Don,t let me stop you, but an aircon in the van is appreciated. Catch a barra for me. Living in the tropics, I go south for summer, usually as far as Victoria. I like Eden, Green cape area. will be there late Feb. Have a good trip.Bill
Yes, you will need to keep an eye on the weather north of the tropic. There are 4 or 5 tropical low pressure systems hovering across the top of Oz at the moment, bringing big thunderstorms and lots of rain. We are standing by to observe the development of a low north of Cairns. It's bringing some rain, some humidity and not much else down the coast. It's predicted to develop into a tropical cyclone, but I'm hoping it won't. The rain is good. The intense gale force winds are not. Even if they don't have cyclones the depressions bring big rains which are known to cause flooding and washouts along highways. Unsealed roads are just closed to everyone, even local traffic. Those who venture through a road block risk their vehicles, their lives and a massive fine for ripping up the road. They may also be charged for the cost of rescue if they have to be towed out. It's just not worth it in the wet season. Apart from that, watch those handbags JimRicho mentioned. They're nesting and get very protective of their patch - especially the girls. And I don't blame them.

If you are coming down the coast road be sure and stop in Ulladulla. PM me and I'll give you directions to our place and a phone number. Hope to see you.

Thanks to all , we have been up there several times over the years . Yes we are leaving early & it will be a slow trip up to there ,we will watch the weather & try to be there at the end of the wet season .We are aware of road closures etc , same out in the dessert country . Its very hard to predict from here , anyway a steady trip with time to look around on the way .No hurry this time & if we can get in early we may just make it back for the get together .
Bill 12 , yep, passed through Mallacoota last year & it was zero deg , no sitting in boat in that .
Thanks MA , will do for sure. We did go through there last year & we only hooked up the nett at Batemans Bay & only heard about this forum recently.[bugger ] There will be a next time , we also have friends from Sydney that have a beach house there on the southern end of town. They camp beside us up here at Christmass .
Brickies ... we may go back to FNQ later in the year .
Jimricho.. Might see you up there mate .
Cheers to all .

Been through a number of times on my way to places further south. Bemm R. is nice and you can catch estuary perch(bass in Qld) in the river. Its nice country, and you could spend a lot of time just looking.I like catching fish on home made lures, and its good fun, besides getting the odd feed. Will be down that way in late Feb, all things being equal> See ya there, Bill
