I would like to thank Lionel Mussell and Andrew Phillips with tracking down the history of my recently acquired Caprice Eclipse caravan. A couple of very smart and informed gentlemen, I thank you both.
For those who may be interested in Eclipse pedigree, below are the findings from Andrew. I suspect he must have a lot of knowledge running around inside his head.
"Your caravan was built by Eric Jurgens in Thomastown.
If I have remembered this correctly Eric started at a Bayswater caravan dealership selling caravans and then moved to help open a factory yard for Goldstream, from there he made Traveller caravans then to Millard caravans and then your caravan Caprice, all the above were made in the Thomastown area. There was another brand he built which if memory serves me correct was Sovereign caravans. He is now building caravans near Sunbury???? I do not know of this brand as I have not seen him for around 5 to 6 years.
I am not certain of the dealers he had I did hear there was one in QLD and SA, however he sold caravans in Melbourne direct form his factory."
A big thank you to those who welcomed me as a newbie. We (my wife and I) are off for our shake down trip this weekend where I think we will have a lot to learn.
Yes Andrew is a very knowledgeable man as is Lionel. I remember the factory, or should i say a caravan factory in Thomastown. In Mahoneys Road not far past where the MFB station is now heading towards the Hume Highway. Can't remember the name but can still see in my minds eye the vans coming out of the factory. The road has changed a lot now and no trace of the factory as it was is to be seen.
Terro.
