Hi to everyone - brand new and wet behind the ears new grey nomad here. I have b een reading all your post for a week or more - very interesting and you all sound so nice - I can't wait to meet up with people at the wonderful sounding places and campouts. I've yet to buy a van - think I'll get a campervan rather than caravan. I have worried I'm from Hobart and if anyone is travelling to Tassie, I have some land - you are most welcome to campout. I have 3 dogs Matilda Maude, Beau James and Maggie May - I hope to take them with me - if not I might leave one with my daughter - but which one???? Hope to hear from all of you!!! Cheers Rainey

It is a little scary isn't it.I made the decision to "go" after much debate with "me".There's so much to learn,so many decisions to make.I'm sure it will be a wonderful and exciting time for you. I dooo love Tassy..I spent some years there in a previous life and have always wanted to go back..and I will. Hi rainey.....I am sure you will get lots of support and advise here, a pretty fab mob is to be found. I will be out there one day soon and joined just as you have so i could lean the tricks also. I like the sound of motor homes for solo travellers. One registration, no packing up if you want to go in a hurry and more comfort than a van. But i am sure baby steps and starting out modestly before spending bigger bucks is a very wise thing to do.

I agree with your thoughts, grab a camper first, I suggest a Toyota Hi-ace camper, they are relatively cheap and just go forever on the smell of an oily rag, the only problem is finding a fuel station that serves oily rags
just be careful about splitting your dogs up by leaving one behind the little buggers fret, not only will he lose his mum but he will lose his pack, some will actually will themselves to death! just something else for you to worry about!
Welcome Rainey,you are in just the right place for advice and fun.I believe that Xina has a Toyota van and enjoying it.We had one up to a couple of years ago and to this day I often wonder why we sold it.At the moment we have a Jayco Penguin towed byan EL Falcon waggon and we are more than happy with both of them.I tend to agreewith Dave re your little mates.I do not envy you one little bit on the decisons you will make.In the meantime good luck and I am sure that whatever you do will work out ok for you.Cheers.Ibbo.

Welcome Rainey. As Dave says, the Toyota Hi-ace is a great Camper. He has one too. There are different lay-outs, so If I were you, I'd check them out on Google, to see which lay-out will suit you best. For example :- Some have the kitchen area at the front, and some at the back. Then again, some which backpackers use, don't have a kitchen as such, but have a portable camping stove, and cook outside on a folding table all the time. If you have any specific questions, just ask.
Now, now Reza, back, back! I can hear your mind ticking over from here. Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk. She's a Newbie, and may not be ready for you yet. Gently, gently. In the mean time, Raineygirl, keep an eye out for some of these blokes. They're really good generally speaking, but sometimes they get a bit too enthusiastic, if you get my meaning.

welcome aboard rainey im a newbie too , and these people are wonderful the read up each time i come in here is alway so good and i still even go backand read other old stuff.
so enjoy the site ,oh and guess what wonders will never cease guys ive been told today that we are going to go for a trip to birdsville hotel something ive always wanted to do its twenty hours drive from here but we will take about four days off work.
ive always wanted a picture of the pub i would dearly love to take a picture of our wrx outside the pub but i dont think we are gonna drive that there its hubbys prize possession im just glad hes decided to at least for now take a few days off and go someplace so he starts to see some of the country this wonderful australia has.
Hardly a Newbie any more Glassies. Good that you are going away, even if it's only for four days. Better than nothing.
Hope to get up that way ourselves later this year.
