smile Hi all.
My wife and i will be travelling this great country of ours early next year, for however long it takes.The house will be getting sold and home from then on will be our Coromal wind up off road camper.With us will be our little Maltese/****su "Muffie".She weighs in at a paltry 2kg and is 4 1/2 years old.
Our plan is to work as we go, but also enjoy the freedom of not having to work a five day week.
This sudden change in attitudes came about about five months ago when we realised we were not enjoying life to the full.After my wife loosing a son(22)and then a close family member(57) it dawned on us that even though we are 51 and 57 respectively life was passing us by at a rate of knots.The house holds too many memories and now the remaining boys have flown the coop, it is also too big for us.
We still have holidays planned for this year but all our focus is on next year.
We look forward to catching up with as many member as possible over the years at different locations.If any of you could pass on any advise you feel may help us it would be warmly welcomed.

hey Martin whats wrong with the wind up camper, we meet a hell of a lot of folks out there with lift up and wind up and push up campers and vans, camper trailers are another long distance traveler and they take a lot longer than a wind up, I have met a lot of folks who wouldn't be without their tent

only one draw back that I have ever come across with wind up campers or vans and that was an old one where the cable had snapped, it couldn't be put up manually!

I think forever in a wind up is a definite possibility, we have done Australia 2 or 3 times in a pop top camper, doesn't matter what it is just as long as you are out there

HOME is the operative word. coming back from working to HOME a wind up Coromal camper would not cut the mustard for most. living working eating cooking full time in wind up camper shock horror. 3 mnth holiday yes, HOME no
freeze to death in winter and baked to death in summer that is not living

So far the camper has been great,however we have discussed the possibility of upgrading to a more solid caravan if after a while the current one does not suit our needs.As it is new we want to get as much use out of it as possible.W have been away with it many times and to date it suits our needs.I appreciate it is not everyones idea of 'home' but i suppose we will find out sooner or later.Either way it is the start we need :)

you wont have a drama with it John, we were talking to a couple in the Chinese restaurant last night who have been travelling via camper trailer for twenty five years, it takes around 15 minutes to set it up, but as she said "we are in no hurry, we stay in the one spot for a week or more so whats the rush, we like to be comfortable", they are retired and hail from Brisbane, owned their own business so I dont think money was a factor, I think lifestyle came first

it's funny how so many like minded people flock together, fung lee, the restaurants owner, placed more tables and chairs together to form a larger table so we could all yak around together we ended up with around twenty odd folks, travel was one of the uppermost subjects

at the end of the night we had the waiters and waitresses sit with us having after hours drinks, we didn't leave until 3 a.m.

So true Dave.We have met so many people on our weekends away that normally you would have just passed them by,but due to the commom interest they are now friends.And we look forward to meeting even more when we eventually 'hit the road'.

Thank you for the kind words.We are really looking forward to our travells when we depart Adelaide. Just a quick question, how do you get a Blog going and how did you do it so well. Looks great.It is something we want to do to keep our friends and family up to date as we travel around.
