Thanks for some clarity Dave, sounds like you have more than enough on your plate.Hope you have a good rest! I would still like to do that trip so if anyone takes up the baton...we may avoid confusion if more of a framework is suggested by the poster at the outset like possibilities for timing season road conditions 4x4? stuffto do rough costing etc which can then be thrown around. It would be good if other locals also could respond to some of the questions so the undecided could actually make an informed decision! If not I'll do it on my own some day. This reminds me why I live on my own......oh the peace! :)
Yes I understand that Dave...its fine. Its fascinating that all has gone quiet yet 361 people have looked at this thread.....can someone out there please clarify what trips are being organised and say who has ownership of the idea and does it mean that owner largely takes responsibility for the process of negotiating the suggestion into an outcome?
Ron and Shirley.......Once again....please read the posts correctly and right through.... before quoting !! I love you quoting my posts but please do so in the right context
Alice Springs: is Central for the first one.
1st: is easy to remember........maybe first weekend?? July: the weather is good in the centre
2011: will give everyone time to prepare!!
Therefore.................................
July 1st 2011 in Alice Springs......or first weekend in July!!
This was posted as a suggestion for a time and a place at the time when the question of a get-together, Australia wide, was first mentioned. It went nowhere after that. It was a suggestion only!!

If at First You Don't Succeed.......Redefine Success !!
I am a member of both forums and I am a moderator on BB.
I don't have any animosity toward any members on either forum.
I am a member of about eight forums and I actively participate in all of them in one form or another.
Each forum has its own advice and friendship to offer, you take from them what you need and want and leave the rest.
No one on BB to my knowledge anyway, feels any animosity toward anyone here on GN and I don't know where it all came from to start with.
Yep, there are personalities that clash, thats called human nature. You form a firmer friendship with a more like minded person if that is the case.
Cindy has a lovely forum here, Trevor has a lovely forum with BB's.
I will remain a member of both. Yet to see this rift everyone talks of, everyone seems to all gel ok.
Because a few wires have been crossed along the way with the meeting arrangements somewhere or other, does not mean there is deliberate rivalry in any way shape or form. I just think that everyone here is that excited at the prospect of putting a face to a name at the get together, it is very contagious.
I personally can't wait till Mudgee to meet a few of you. I don't care who organises next year but I wll try to see if I can make it. I am taking eight weeks this year so next year I will have to see.
I am hoping to participate in a get together with another forum in the next few months as well. Love the prospect of meeting new people, hearing of their adventures in our big brown land. They don't mind that I am getting together with you guys or BB's on these other trips, in fact they encourage it.
A few have even tried to juggle their times for the Mudgee trip and it will be great if they can come.
There is always all this talk about helping each other and having a common cause with the Nomad life, be nice to see a bit more of that and a lot less bickering over what doesn't exist.
Nothing I have said is in anger or defence, just the way I see things. I am a grown up and I participate where I wish these days.
Here I love to listen to your advice Dave and the adventures of Ma. I like the way everyone uses our Aussie humour and very rarely anyone takes offence. I like the way the girls advice is as valid as the guys. I like most of what goes on here and if I am not all that interested in a topic, I go look at another.
But I really like the way the place bands together when one of our own is in trouble, hurting or upset. This friendship is what attracts new members guys and the more the merrier to achieve all of the above.

Thanks Fire Fly - well put. I've never sensed any animosity between the Nomads & ABB's, and as far I read we are all mates who met on GN initially. The ABB get together was forwarded to GN as an invitation to register interest in attending a gathering in Mudgee. The fact there have been a smaller number of registrations of interest then anticipated by the organisers of the SA proposed gathering, confirms my original warning to be prepared for small numbers for various reasons. There will rarely be large numbers able to attend one of these gatherings no matter where or when. I reckon if there's a chance to meet up with fellow GN's do it, no matter where or when. I'm off to meet a train in Cairns this arvo to do just that with another couple of GN's here in town. The "get-together" idea is a great idea, but I fear anyone who organises such an event will be disappointed if they expect large numbers to meet in the one place at any one time.

Hi your royal duckness, can you perhaps say more about about the idea? as per my previous post? I'd love to go sometime but need more info...of course I can find out myself but then thats not a group. Never been to Alice or Uluru only thru 3 ways from Darwin. Are you running with this idea if it takes off?....or perhaps that's flying ...but maybe you're an indian runner!:))
No mate......I am not organising anything. I couldn't organise a drink in a Brewery (as JRH puts it) :)
As I explained the only one trip set in concrete at this stage is a trip to Mudgee Caravan park....this May.
Basil from the ABB forum is suggesting a trip to South Australia next September 2011 for a period to be determined or set by yourself. There is a thread on the ABB forum that explains it. The idea is.....we find a spot to meet.....stay and do what we can around the place and then move on to meet at the next place etc etc. That way you can meet up where and when you like and leave when you like. There is no suggestion of travelling in convoy although you obviously can if you want to.
If enough people are interested then Basil will work out an itinerary. He is probably doing that now.
To my knowledge....nobody is looking at the Alice in the near future!!

There is a sticky at the top of the general chat room on here regarding Mudgee. Ma is the organiser of that one so if you don't have just the most wonderful time there or you meet someone you don't like......feel free to sue Ma. LOL Just kidding!!

Thanks for the detail Duck and thanks to Granny and Firefly.I can see more clearly now how some things seem to me a bit disjointed....because some conversations are happening over both forums. I didn't realise that before. Granny I agree with your point about just catching up when you can too... have fun with the Brickies! hope I haven't offended anyone....none intended...my nails were getting short scratching my head , that's all.
Yay...Dave's back in the saddle! I'm interested and will get back with my requests/etc in a few hrs after some thought. One ,however, is Schraples vineyard (if they still own it)at Nooriootpa and to search for deutchekuchen and metwurst....its been sooo long. Maggie Beer's place would be great too... :)
okay so what's going on with that one, this is pretty well sorted if all are agreeable only subject to specific dates
Denise let me know which way you are coming in and I can guide you to all the fantastic wineries from the barossa to the clare valley and wirrabara and points of interest on the way! you will be in my back yard and I know it intimately!
please advise if September suits you, it will have to be a numbers thing (mob rules) I will speak with the dragon and maybe go to France earlier or later, depending on results of this
remember this is not set in stone and is way open to opinions from all and sundry!

Dave I just wrote a list of stuff then lost it in the posting...can't bear to do it again now . Can I do it on the weekend? If its cool in Sept yes, I'm there.
Denise we will be away for around two weeks starting tomorrow, I wont be around much today, only just got back from Adelaide, so all is go here today if you could make up a list of your favorite pastimes and I will give you an itinerary, there is far more to the Adelaide hills and the barossa than is readily known to an outsider
I know most of the free camps in these areas and the ones I dont know of should be taken up by folks who live around there!
so I will be as busy as a "CHOCOLATE COVERED QUOKKA!!" for a while!
great thanks Dave. How close to sydney are you guys going to be? Maybe we could meet up...? Dying to meet the long suffering dragon, she never says a word!! Cheers,Denise
I realise that there are quite a few forums out there and it has become confusing when topics/comments or events happening on others are referred to. Shouldn't the forum stick to topics/ comments relevant to its own members ?
the trouble is with a statement like that is that the grey nomads and the Boomers have many cross over members which will be interested in any meet ups planned by both forums, all I was trying to do was to not interfere with plans that involve most members from either forum
but you are correct any planning from here will be only relevant from here from now on!
Denise we are going to Cessnock, after we spend a day or two there we are going into hiding, the long suffering lovely lady, that is my soulmate and wife and whom I tentatively call "the dragon" (out of earshot of course or the wrath shall come down) and i will be going into the mountains to a little log cabin, we have booked our lad into respite (again) for two weeks and we are just going to fish (trout by fly) in a mountain stream and sit, read a book and talk and walk and just enjoy life again, just "wind down", no TV, no phone, no wireless just solitude
the dragon does not post in any of these fora although she does look over my shoulder and belts me occasionally, which I richly deserve
in short we are out to recharge a few batteries! I am still getting used to sleeping at night (sometimes)
all over now, head home tomorrow (Thursday) so not really happy Jan, too much fun in too short a time, met some fantastic folks up here and the cabin is fantastic, the views are to die for, dont want to leave, but home and family call
