Have been waiting on public health list for QEII Hospital for about 20 months for operation. Wouldn't you know it- we retire officially on 11th August this year and heading off around Oz as no doubt some of you would have seen my other posts. I got notice my op is happening on March 10th. Now I presently work fulltime until 11th August. Have to have reasonably major surgery in 2 weeks, have not got replacement for me at work yet as was going to do later in year about June. Going to be a struggle but as they say- one day at a time. At least i should be all better for August when we take off now anyway! Whats the old saying.? "Man plans and God displans!" This is how it goes, Hospital - hire replacement for work- sell two houses- buy 4 x 4 tow vehicle- buy caravan, all between 10th March and 11th August! Any suggestions? Bring on Retirement I say- I need a rest! Cheers everyone Dawn
Well dear Dawn all the best with that surgery, and that should be the only thing on your mind right now. Who replaces you is not your worry. You give them adequate notice of your sick leave and retirement, the rest is up to them. You have to concentrate on your health, and then that big trip. You're right though - you'll be over and recovered from the surgery. Good timing I reckon. All the best with you medical stuff. As we all know there's always risk, but the outlook is where you're heading. You'll be free of that troublesome body part and once the bruises have faded you'll be a new girl. That's something great to be looking forward to. There's always an "up" side.

You're not alone Dawn. Ted was due to retire at end of school year. He made it to the end of October, finished up in hospital and didn't make it back. He kept saying that he was well enough to go back and do 250 reports. Thankfully nobody listened to him. Everybody else worked together and covered all the end of year work that needed to be done and were only too glad to be able to help.
It's time to think about yourself for a change and let everybody think about you too.
you have my sympathy Dawn, but just because it may be put off for a little while it is still coming, pain in the bum to find staff that you can trust though
Good luck with your operation Dawn and I am sure you will have everything in hand by August. We had talked about retirement but then I had a heart attack in October, ended up in FMC for a week and within my recovery period of 6 weeks we looked at lots of caravans and bought a Mitsubishi Pajero. Still haven't retired or bought a van but getting closer to both.
do it now Gail, I had a couple heart attacks here a while back, the quacks reckon the next one may be the one, we cant retire but by hell we aren't staying home much, tomorrow may never come
