Found this Bigpond warning when I was checking my usage and maintenance pages. I do hope no GN's have fallen victim to these vile miscreants.
Warning: Hoax email attempting to capture customer billing information and credit card details. This most recent hoax email is known to have the subject line: please update your BigPond credit card The email advises Members that we were unable to process their most recent payment for their bill. It asks members to confirm and update billing information to prevent their service being interrupted. The email directs you to a false BigPond page to login. This email is designed to trick Members into providing their details which can then be used to gain unauthorised access to your service. If you receive this email, delete it. A person with experience is never at the mercy of a person with an argument.
There are a couple of codes which make it exceptionally easy to avoid becoming the victim of a scam such as this.
The first of those is your user account number of login detail (as the case may be). The second of those is the institution's customer service account enquiry telephone number.
If you use those, together and religiously before making any change whatsoever to your account details, you'll never have a problem!
G'day Cat, I haven't welcomed you to the forum as yet, please forgive me and accept my warmest welcome,
your advice is gold and very useful but to those of us whom are as yet virgins to the nastiness of the code breakers this is all very confusing stuff and so easy to step into
