Went to the Carry Van & Camping Show in Adelaide yesterday....drove 3 hours there and 3 hours home after....should have taken the carry van and stayed over night hehehe....the reason for my post is to find out what others think ...is it just me showing my old age or what... Why isnt there anywhere just to take a seat for say 5 or 10 mins ...its amazing just what that time could do. Especially for the brain...would give you time to think and say yes I need that ...more dollars spent ..now that would be an advantage for the stall holders...more seats please.
I found myself standing in the sun on the northern side of the Goyder stand so i could get a break and some solitude form the hustle and bustle and get my thoughts together also.Full sun no fun, it was hot. Then later took a rest in a different way out spot some where by the oval so i could sit and read some of the information i had.
Wish i had taken my lunch too. Expensive frozen then fried food in not high up on my favourite things to eat.
It would be good Escape to hear about what you did like.

Please don't get me wrong...I loved the Show...and if it wasnt so far away I would have gone again today ..mainly to buy what I didnt buy yesterday...mainly one airconditioner..o well perhaps if there was a seat I could have pondered over it .. hehehe...I have to admit I didnt think it was as good as the last show I went too. On a positive note...the lovely sales man that talked to me about the air con was very helpful... 10 points to him...(which takes me to my next topic) There was a lovely man that helped me decide which mirrors to buy...he too was so helpful ..( the mirrors were top of my list). Can't wait till the next show ...might see you there ...and by the way take your lunch this time ..I did.
I took my lunch with me and ate it on the steps...yep...not enough seating.....nothing inside the halls........had to sit in a van...........my back was buggared ..after getting in and out vans.......they dont make caravans and doorways high enough.......Hell.........I'm only 6ft 5"...
I did have a good time chatting with Tommo...bushcamp cooker...and sampled what he made

We went to the show and learned more from 3 different couples we shared a table with for lunch and coffee break. I agree with the cost of food and drink - $10 for 2 capucinos!!! Was our last look at vans before we made the big decision. Have decided to buy a Creative Tanami from Murray Bridge. Hope to get it by July. That will be most of my super gone but hopefully it will be worth it!!
Hi Pete, we have an NS Pajero which we bought last October after hours of searching. The van is 21ft with ensuite, cooker with oven, BBQ and a small table on the side and best of all the agent is close to home if anything isn't right. We now have to go and pick our colour schemes. We are definitely greenhorns about all this so will only have a couple of short trips before really setting off. We are both still working and will rtire later in the year. Hope to make Port Broughton our first trip or even closer to home at Port Elliot. At the show Bob scored a deal with TJM to buy a bull bar and gets a free snorkel much to the annoyance of our kids! It seems to be nothing but shovelling out money to get us started but I guess it will all be worth it in the end.
Hi Gail...you say you are heading to Port Broughton....well can I tell you of a lovely little place that we go twice a year ...Point Turton....absolutely lovely...and your husband will love it too if he is into fishing...its right in front of the caravan park..all sites have lawn and lovely and green even fake grass ...I wouldnt think it would be further to come there .. let me know if u ever decide to go to Point Turton ...we may catch up for a cuppa or two...good luck with your travels.
The idea behind no seating is to keep you looking until your brain is so scrambled you make a rash decision to spend money on something you didn't mean to. I agree, if the environment was more relaxing and placid you'd be able to sit and look around, think and chat about what you'd seen so far, and as ScottynBulldog found, they learned even more form fellow van show patrons. I don't know if they even target Grey Nomads in their marketing, or if they're aiming at younger people and families. It doesn't sound like it. I went to the Adelaide one in 08, and by the time I got back to my car my back was numbed by pain. Sitting down was a painful ordeal. I reckon the best way to deal with those shows is to browse and keep walking, gather as much paperwork as you think you'll need, get a card from the salesman and ask him to date it, and then within a week check out the dealers at their yards and mention the deals on offer during the show. Sleep well.
