back from one great trip

Finally back from our trip to Streaky bay SA but only for 7 weeks have sold the house in NSW and moving to streaky bay in 7 weeks and 2 days but who's counting. Agreat time to be over there weather perfect and fishing great also the blue swimmers were still in the bay so got to eat a lot of them while over there. the whiting were a little quiet but still managed to catch a few. and the oysters great as usual. the amount of dolphins and their babies that are in the bay at the moment was spectacular. I was laying up at the bow of the boat many a morning as they went from side to side of the boat keeping one eye on me. I was worried about the babies doing this mum on one side them on the other that we would hit one but they did it with ease. Anyone travelling over that way at the moment and wanting powered sites at the caravan park i suggest you book. Its a big park but no vacancies sign was up everyday before lunchtime and this usually last till the end of April. neil and lynne went to IGA in search of jenny a few times. Someone told me they didnt think the jenny that worked there had relatives in WA. it was one of the becks that told me. then they told me Foodland is also an IGA and two jennys worked there as well. So I will track her down eventually. Safe travels everyone we nearly didnt the other half nodded off while driving between morgan and burra and has now learnt we aren't in a hurry anymore. chezgobiggrin

Gee ..

Love that Streaky Bay  ...

We stay there rather than Ceduna (wonder why) on the way back from WA.

Have been lucky to get waterfront sites on two occasions, (no wind) but anywhere in the park is good.

Are you going to stay in the park on your return?

I know I'm lazy and could quite easily look it up, but tell me how far Streaky Bay is away from Ceduna.   I have stayed in Ceduna a couple of times and wasn't all that fussed.  Admittedly it was quite some years ago and has probably improved since then.

hi Ma its 120k from Ceduna. im not sure if Ceduna has improved they have more crime and i see barbed wire around the caravan park down on the foreshore i think that it is the reason most people tend to go through it rather than stay. the town itself is now a dry zone so dont see any drunkeness in the streets like a few years ago. Streaky bay is where people tend to head nice and peaceful and the one policeofficer doesnt have much to do in the crime dept. My daughter up in broome is shocked at the crime up there stuff we probably dont see as tourists staying there. she is currently duty manager at the motel which is in town they get broken into once or twice a week broken windows etc for a couple of bottles of booze and yesterday some kids rammed a car into the bottle shop stoles 10 bottles of jim beam two jack daniels and a 6 pack of cans the roof collapsed a brick wall and 5 metres of windows. its sad she is on first name basis with all the police up there for the wrong reasons but calling them is a daily event the latest was at 4am. In the long term you would wonder what this will do for the tourism industry up there. And Cupie no not staying at the caravan park in Streaky bay although it is nice to wake up 50 feet from the water. We built a house over there 2 years ago and rented it out and after our tennant moved out decided it was time to move into it ourselves chezgo

Thankyou for the info Chezgo.   Crime is a problem in most places but seems Ceduna and Broome are coping more than their fair share.  I can't imagine being surrounded by barbed wire in the CP.  There was a fairly high chain wire fence around the foreshore one when I was there last with security gating and such and that was bad enough.

It doesn't take long for any place to get a bad name when things like that happen regularly and yes, it doesn't do much for the tourist trade.

I know here where I live during the tourist season our crime rate nearly triples but even so it is relatively minor compared to there.
