Update from Bridgee

Hello GNs

It's been so long since we've been on this site some senior members might have forgotten us. We arrived home from our around Oz caravan trip last August and thought to ourselves "We've stayed in a lot of C'van parks ... how hard could it be to work in one??!!"  ............. We applied for a position of assistant managers at Cheynes Beach CP, 68 kms east of Albany WA and found out the answer to our question ...... f-f-f-flamin' hard!!

However the location is superb, surrounded by pristine beaches, national parks, inlets and awesome fishing.

So if any nomads are heading towards WA's south coast we recommend this park. It has an excellent reputation as being one of the cleanest and best parks in the Albany region. And of course if you do decide to book in here, don't forget to say hello to us (Brian & Sue) we'd love to catch up with you.

Sorry to hear our old mate Dave06 is having health problems.. hope he's well enough to return to the forum in the near future.

A beautiful part of WA you are in, should compensate for all the hard work.

Welcome back, nah you were not forgotten

So, you headed off bright eyed and bushy tailed, and now experienced, so tell all about the trip. Lots of newbies looking to do the same, so your first hand experience will help them

Working in the admin of a caravan park is a very sensitive "people" job.
While most of the customers would be happy and friendly, there are always those for whom the facilities would never, ever be good enough. They'll complain and whinge until they get a free night. It's a traveller's lurk.
I worked on the outside, gardening, landscaping, etc and had a great time. I love gardening, the equipment was supplied, I did the work, propogating plants etc, so I was in my element.
Many of the guests would come and have a chat about the plants and how to grow them.
On the other hand the managers were bast..ds, of the worst controlling kind.
They were not people managers, and their attitude reflected that. He would ride his pushy around the park to check on everyone, often, but would never look up and greet, smile or say g'day to anyone. He'd run into them first.
I've stayed in parks where they have a bbq and quizz night once a week, and we just so friendly and sociable, and nothing was too much trouble.
You choose which type of manager you'd like to be.
If anyone has ever been a customer of a park would know what they expected, and would therefore manage the park according to the standards you expect.
