CARAVAN WEIGHTS

Does anyone know the explanation of caravan weights?
Tare weight;   1650kg ,    I beleive this to be the unladen weight.
GTM 1845kg,    ?????
ATM 2050kg,    ????
Axle load capacity,  3000kg.

Thanks.

Tare weight. That is the weight as measured at the factory. When you order a van with accessories, a lot of these are added by your local dealer after he takes delivery from the factory. The dealer then adds these and the van comes to you somewhat heavier.

GTM. Gross Trailer Mass - the maximum weight on the axle group.

ATM. Aggregate Trailer mass - the total (aggregate) maximum weight your van can weigh.

Axle load capacity. This is the maximum design load for the axle/springs/wheels. It will be the capacity for the weakest link in that chain (or should be.)

To find the maximum weight you can load into your van take the 2050 kg figure (ATM) and subtract the tare weight plus the weight of the added accessories, gas and water from it.

ATM includes the weight supported by the hitch (unhitched, on its own, including the dolly wheel, total weight measured by the weighbridge).

GTM EXcludes the hitch weight (weighed still attached to the tug, but with the tug OFF the weighbridge).

Cheers,
Peter

As previously stated the main areas that wil affect you are the Tare & Atm.
The Tare being is the empty weight of the van when it left the factory. Although the Tare may not be a true figure as some manufacturers only guess the tare weight.
The ATM is the Maximum Loaded Weight of the van with everything you put in or on it, including water in the tank(s) and gas in the cylinder(s).
Any accessories added by the dealer or yourself after it left the factory have to be accommodated in the personal load figure (Difference between the Tare & Atm). This may include items such as an awning, battery, solar, extra water tank etc.  Also Awning walls (Annex) if carried in the van.
Cheers, ozjohn.
