Can crusher

Occurs to me that a can crusher might be a useful object on the road, especially when bush camping or on a long outback trip.
I mean the ones with a handle that you pull down and, bingo, you have a much smaller amount of aluminium to carry away for disposal.
Where would you buy one? Anyone seen a crusher recently? Bunnings, perhaps? Caravan shops? Comments invited.
Cheers, Tony

I aint got a can crusher, still in the dark days of the stomper, thing i found was after downing amber fluid, I have to open another for the walk in a c/p to bin that says stick it here.
Amazing the amount of C/Ps that dont collect our give aways.  Some said the cost to move it out is beyond transport costs ect.

Hi All , We were in a park early this year and they had this big cage with a face on it and a tube in the mouth..The cage was placed near the bbq s when the cage was full the scrap guy came in and replaced it...money for jam...If you were going to crush them at road side stops and cash them in ,,,it would be a full time job in some parts of the world, IF you could keep up..Could help to pay for running costs???    Wonder if a tonne of scrap crushed ally cans would pay,   more than a ton of scrap glass bottles surely.
Certainly must make a difference volume wise.

Great Idea,  I used to have one of them crusher things.  Somewhere in me shed now,  I think !

Also I noticed some   CP's are leaving milk type crates  or similar containers strategically placed around the camps. For bottle and can recycling.   Probably the local shire or council have a recycling policy running.

Absolutely hate to see all those beer, soft drink, bottles, and cans, strewn along the roadsides and in rest areas etc.    On our recent trip back from  the East coast to Perth(arrived home on Wednesday  2nd June)

I  was vaguely noting the areas where  rubbish  was visible along the Eyre Hwy.  I would swear it increased in volume the closer we got to the W.A. border  ?  Perhaps it was my imagination. Tis a long drive after all.

Saddens me also,  every  Australia Day (well the morning after) here in Perth. To see the rubbish left on the Swan Foreshore by all those  people who absolutely

"Love Australia"

But not enough to take their rubbish home or to the bins provided.

Regards

Mike and Ellie

Try one of those Home Brew shops they sell all types of like that or a camping supplier.

I have seen a DIY construction diagram on the net but can't recall the site

there's lots of things that might be useful on the road but if you take them all you may need a truck to carry them. If you are past standing on cans just put them in front of your wheels and after you have driven a metre or two stop and you will find crushed cans.

Thanks for advice, especially about not crushing cans in SA. Does the refund help cut down littering? It's a real problem in WA. Even my neighbourhood streets are awash with bottles and cans tossed from passing cars.
Cheers, Tony

You don't see too many cans and bottles in SA, people are out collecting any they can find for the money.  I reckon we should have the same system here in the West.

You bet it improves the litter problem. A can or plastic bottle is worth 10c ea at the recycle centre.
It must pay them to sort them and transport them to the city where they are recycled.
It was a good way to get cash for scrap in Pt. Lincoln, but there are recycle centres around the state.
I don't understand why the other states are doing it. SA is leading the way and it's very apparent along the highways and in the towns.
One Highways Dept gang used to pick up cans and bottles and fund their Christmas party with the proceeds.
To crush or not to crush - that is the state of the question it seems.
This park in Cairns doesn't recycle either.
