just wondering if anyone has had problems re broken axles i sheered the axle on my jayco the other day lost wheel and brake drum etc lucky not much damage to van itself at present negotiating repairs as van 8 months old and only travelled 2000 km
Chances are that it was due to a Wheel Bearing failure. Have heard of people snapping axles due to Bearing failure. How old, how long since bearings checked and or re-packed and by who.
Alk-Ko have a good reputation of quality and supply Jayco with their axles. Looks like a falure with their QA. You shouldn't have any problem getting your van back to new as Jayco have one of the best warranty records in the industry. Best to just pencil it up to bad luck. Hope it doesn't sour your vanning experience. Cheers, ozjohn.

Hi All, Thats one thing we look at every time before going on the next trip, is wheel bearings.. There is nothing wores than being stuck some place way out there with that trouble.. We have fitted brakes to all 4 wheels this time, and the drums and backing plates came from china..Had I not looked in the hub it would have been the same trouble that you have just had, there was a load of carsting sand still left in the hub where the bearing fits..That mixed with grease would have turned in to cutting paste and ........you know... Most things come from there and some times the quality is a little on the rushed side. .Even on a new van i would look at things like that before taking to the road.. But thats me. .Hope all turns out well for you ...Bob n Bev
