Hi all just thought I would let you know that we are heading back to W.A. in our New Off-Road Spinifex. We are currently in Broken Hill catching up with Dave's Parents - they drove up from Wodonga to meet up with us.
Head off again tomorrow towards S.A. hoping to get as far as Kimba or further in a free camp. We have stayed in 2 free camps so far - everything worked fabulously, especially the diesel heater - what a gem
It has been very cold, but I suppose it is winter and if we had a choice we would high tail it up to Darwin - spent the last 2 winters there - fabulous!
We have to be back by the end of next week for Dave's work, but atleast we are travelling now.
Well you can't exactly call yourselves "Grey Nomads" yet, but nomads it seems you most certainly are. Welcome to the forum, and the road. You obviously have the set up to make the most of your adventures. It's a pity you have to put the memories on hold to go back to work. Wherever you go, safe and happy travels.
Question: Can you keep us informed of the weather conditions, particularly the prevailing wind as head head west across the Nullarbor? I may be doing it early next year, if one of my plans happens.

We will be following you in a couple of weeks, we will be in the Adelaide area in a bit over a week before heading across the Nullabor ourselves so as Granny said 'keep us informed of weather conditions) also petrol prices(we have petrol & LPG) if possible.
Thanks & Safe driving Jon

when you get to norsman there is a big servo at the xroads, [bp I think]. give it the flick, drive 2kls into town, there is a little servo in a back street near INFO, heaps cheaper, this was the case 2yrs ago.

Thanks for that, any advice on cheap petrol, camp sites etc along the nullabor are greatly appreciated. We need to watch our money a bit especially after a kindly but concentious motorbike officer with radar gun charged us $340 for doing 78klm in a 60klm zone. I stupidly didn't consider it could be 60klm as it was on a straight country road with nothing around on the outskirts of Mt Gambia, I don't think there was a speed sign between were we swung onto the road & the booking. Hylda gets peeved because she is aware I am always careful of my speed & am very careful so thinks it's a bit unfair but thats life I guess.
Cheers
Jon

Hi sounds like your having fun, The last fuel you get thats not inflated is at Nundroo , the Yelta RH is closed.. Eucla is better than the border servo.. and Mundrabilla is the last best price untill you get to Norseman and yes the best price is the shell in town in Norseman.. All the other RH are very costly.. ..Have been over and back 8 times in the last 4 years..plenty of over nighters .. good luck and safe travels.. Bob n Bev

Travel safely. If looking for free camp between Kimba and Wudinna look for Koongawa Hall, a bit closer to Wudinna than Kimba but is a good place to camp. access to rainwater but no toilets. Also if you want to go further try the Wirrulla sports ground, turn off highway at west end of town and go straight past the pub about a k. toilets are ussually open and water is available. also cold showers if so inclined. Depending which way you go when you hit Norseman petrol is about 15c a litre cheaper at Coolgardie than Norseman so we only put in enough at Norseman to get us there.
Hi all, Thanks for your replys and questions. We travelled from Broken Hill today and got as far as Kyancutta - free camp with toilets 87kms west of Kimba. We filled up at Kimba - $1.37.5pltr Diesel - My fault going through Port Augusta all petrol stations were on wrong side. Dave said he would turn around and go back, but I said no just keep going to next town - No fuel at Iron Knob - had to use jerry can! yes have learnt lesson!
Did hear a dreadful story in Broken Hill before we left. A fellow traveller told us how he and his wife had gone to toilet block together - Broken Hill City C/Park - gone max 10mins. Had both his wallet and wifes purse stolen from van! didn't normally leave unlocked but knew they would be long! Sad part is it had to be another traveller in the park! Everyone please take note and lock up - very sad.
Had a very good run today, not many trucks and no wildlife. anyone travelling between St George to Cunnamulla be very careful of Roo's, Emu's, Goats, fox's and wild pigs!!!!!!!!!!!
