Hello

Hi everyone.
I am getting rather excited now. We are less than 3 weeks away from starting our big trip, or our new lifestyle perhaps I should say.
We have sold up EVERY THING, property etc so no ties left.
Are picking up our new van tomorrow so almost ready to hit the road.

Looking forward to seeing new places and meeting new people.

First stop will be up the Maldon / Bendigo way in the goldfields. See if we can find some of that pretty coloured stuff.

Hi Kerri,

Welcome to your new life! At present we are on a five week 'loop' around Qld and absolutely loving it! I am writing this from Mt Isa, after heading up the coast from Brisbane to Townsville then headed west. We have no doubt you will enjoy every turn in the road as we have as the scenery changes that quick, particularly today for us after the dry plains before Cloncurry then the rugged mountain ranges from Cloncurry into Mt Isa. You really could not believe that it would change so dramatically. What a life this is! Can't wait 'til Peter retires at the end of the year and we too can sell up everything and hit the road - maybe someday we shall meet up with you, and trust me you will meet some really lovely people on the road - we certainly have. But for now, when you get on the road, safe travelling.

Pete & June

hi Pejay, thanks for the welcome.
I am really looking forward to meeting some new people with the same interests, exploring and travel.
Can I ask you how you travel with your items such as glasses. plates etc. do you wrap them, or just stack them in the cupboard.
Prob a basic question, but we have never done this before so not sure if they are safe just stacked in the cupboard not not.

Our new van arrived yesterday, so only 2 weeks to go.

Qld sounds fantastic by the way. Might head there next winter.
cheers

Hi Kerri and Paul, we have been on the road for 11 weeks of a "long as it takes" trip around Australia and loving every minute.  We started from Brisbane and did 6000km before crossing the border at Camooweal into NT.  We are in Katherine at the moment for a week to see some of the sights.  We do some free camping along the way and have spent time in the National Parks as well.  We know you will enjoy your trip.  We are learning stuff as we go and get lots of good ideas from people we meet.  One was the talcum powder round the legs of the caravan to stop the ants....... cheaper than ant sand.
We travel in a Coromal Poptop 17' Seka called 'bout time with a Pajero as the tow vehicle.  You may see us on the road - if you do waive and stop us and we can have a coffee and chat.   Cheers Valerie and Dan

thanks for the great tip on the ants, will make sure we pack some in.
we just got a 25 ft jayco sterling with slide outs. Have a dark green cruiser
with Vic number plates, so if you see us, wave.

So many places to go to see, like you we have no time limit, this is now our life.
2 weeks and counting till big day.

Hi Kerri,

Sorry I have not got back to you sooner - out of range of late. Had a fabulous night at Kynuna (Qld) last night and into Winton today - well worth the trip.

As regards cups, plates & glasses, I ( and lots of others on the road use the Corelle crockery with small squares (coaster size) pieces of the non slip matting between each plate etc. I also have the matting on the bottom of the top locker where I keep such stuff, and although the cups 'skip' and tumble a bit, I have not had any breakages. With regard to glasses, I have to confess I use acrylic 'glasses' as I am prone to flinging my arms around and sending glasses flying! The only things I have trouble with that shoot out and hit me in the face when I open the upper locker door, is hubby's (and a couple of mine) stubby coolers - they just jump out as if they want to 'escape'!

Hope this little bit helps, and hopefully one day we may see you on the road, but in the meantime, safe travelling.

June

laughing at the attack of the stubbie holders, i can see that happening to me too.
We have most stuff packed in the van now, amazing how much room is in there and cupboard space.
Just the last bits in the next week or so.
Getting excited now, not long till that drive out the gate.

Kerri & Paul,

Forgot to mention a little 'gem' that I find necessary for the gas stove top - I found it was hard to get it down for a 'simmer' so purchased a simmer mat at Robins Kitchen I think for around $10 and it is great. Doesn't take up much space, but for me an essential.

Oh my, just seem the temps for the morning out here at Winton 4 deg!!!!! Think we may have a later start in the morning.

What sleep in? The bloomin' bladder decided otherwise. Oh well, hubby made me a lovely hot cup of tea - that made up for the early rise.

re the glasses - cant drink wine out of plastic so we take real glasses.  I have made some glass holders out of milk cartons cut down and then covered in contact,  the wine glasses fit perfectly in the carton and they can be stacked in a box in the cupboard.  I do the same for drinking glasses too.
