Port Smith WA - been there?? Done that??

We are in sunny (sort-of) Broome at the moment.  Our travelling companions have booked us in for our next stop at Port Smith - about 160 km south.  My worry is that the road into the caravan park from the highway is 23km of "well maintained" dirt road.  Our companions have their 4WD - we have our trusty Commodore 2WD.

My question is: do we follow them in - or do we take the coward's way out and stick to the highway?

If you've travelled this road lately your comments will be very much appreciated.

Hi Al, it has been a couple years now since I have been on that road but it was quite corrogated then but nothing the dunnydore wouldn't handle at the appropriate speed.  Having said that, if you are overnighting, don't bother.  Several days then go for it.

The dreaded midges will be waiting for you so don't disappoint them. cry

There are some great fishing spots but you won't get to them in your car, no worries with the 4x4 though....take a hint...rig heavy!

Cheers Neil

As I remember from 2007, there are no creek crossings that you are likely to ground on. Even with the lowest sedan. The corrugations will not be bad the whole way, just slow down where they are.

Mate , if you want to see the good places you have to get off the black top as it looks the same all day long, if it takes all day to sneak into port smith its worth it as you will need a couple or three days when you get there, well worth it.
