DOUG'S PLACE CHINCHILLA QLD.

You've no doubt read elsewhere on the forum about Dougie's Place in Chinchilla Qld.

We came out to Doug's place intending to stay for two nights.  Here we are on night number 11 and will probably stay longer if we don't REALLY have to move on.

I am putting this post in the General Forum as most of us read this page and maybe some of us don't read other pages.

Doug's Place is a 700 acre property 15 kilometers from Chinchilla in the Western Downs area of Queensland.  It is mainly dirt road to get here but I can assure you that it is a lot better than some of the "highways" we have travelled on during this trip.

The peace,  tranquility, serenity and the feeling of being a million miles from the rest of the world is the best bar none.  The billabongs (there are quite a few) definitely have yabbies and they don't half taste good too, firewood that would take a decade to burn in your campfire and the stars at night are an awsome sight.  I didn't realise there were so many stars in the sky but when you get out here and without the lights of a town you can clearly see just how vast our universe is.

As for Dougie himself, what can I say.  One really great GENUINE bloke that nothing is too much trouble for.  He makes you feel more than welcome and if there are any problems he is only too pleased to help out if he can.

You can camp anywhere on the property that suits you and I'm sure if the road wasn't wide enough Doug would make it accessble for you.

Where else in your travels can you stay where the only requirement is that you be self sufficient re: power and water, have help at hand if you need it, relax and recharge the soul AND IT'S ALL FOR FREE.

Give this place a very big consideration if you are passing through this area of Queensland......you won't be sorry that's for sure.

I have been following Dougie and your posts from the beginning regarding his beautiful place and will definitely be heading that way as soon as I get my camper which hopefully will be in the next couple of months.
I can't wait.

G'day Ma & Blue,

It is so nice to read something so positive.

Am very happy to read that you and Blue are enjoying your stay at Dougie's place, we will definitley be heading that way next year and Dougie's sounds like just the spot to unwind and enjoy nature, just one thing though, please leave some Yabbies for the rest of us.

You guys won't be sorry if you can make it to here.  I might have been born a city girl but swapping the city for the country is just so easy.  There is always something to see and walks to do.

Don't worry JRH with the amount of yabbies in these billabongs there will be more than enough to go round.

We aren't like a lot of people who just catch and keep everything they get, we only take what we want to eat at the time all the other ones go back

I bet there are a lot of frog noises coming out of those billabongs and surrounds. Can't wait to get up there with my camera. Those stars sound amazing.
By the way, do you have to keep an eye out for snakes, shall I bring gumboots?
Do the Canetoads come out at night??

Frogs, Crickets and there are even turtles in the billabongs too.

There are wallaby and feral goats but not near the "homestead".  I haven't seen any snakes but then again it's not the middle of summer either.  Haven't seen any canetoads out here either.

We went for a drive this morning to another section of the property and you could bring any size van, 5th wheeler, bus or camper trailer here.  All you have to do is get in touch with Doug, then park for an hour or so and go pick out where you want to be.

I have picked out our possy for the next time we come and there DEFINITELY will be a next time it just won't be for a couple of years as we have plans that are already in place for the next two years, but then again I love it here so maybe I will work on changing those plans, who knows.

Thanks very much.
Had a look on Google and looks ok , a real bush experience.
This has now gone on my list of places.
We love the bush like this and like you would probably be there a few days. Especially if fishing is available.

Again thanks .....wink   Dodg.

 Try it this way...

                             26 36 02.76S  150 40 06.56E

This will then give you a look at a bush site that I tink is the area. It is near a creek and is certainly on its own.

Hi Ma, Dougs place sounds like the bees knees, is it possible to use a genny at night for my v-pap machine, i'm assuming there is enough room to camp where this wouldn't be a problem to other campers?

Colsa, you could run a dozen gennies and not bother a soul.   There are so many places to camp that you could choose one a little away from Dougs cabin and make all the noise you want.

Ma what do you think about Ocean view Caravan Park and the location

The park is OK as far as they go Brickies.  There are a lot of permanents here and very few tourist spots.

The location is good though.  Handy to just about anywhere in this area of the hinterland and down to the Sunshine Coast.

Besides that, beggars can't be choosers either.  This was the only vacancy we could get for miles around and now they are booked solid for the next four weeks as well.

One lady here the other day was saying that they were in Tweed Heads for two nights but had to move on as their site was booked for the next few weeks and they tried just about every park up and down the coast and this was the only one they could get and they moved on today.  She didn't know where they were going to end up as the closest one to the coast as of two days ago that had a vacancy was in Gympie.
