Hi .

We have stayed at Lane Cove a few times & found it great. Interesting to see rabbits running around the bush, so close to the CBD. Lots of busses at the end of the road.

We also have stayed at Lakeside Narrabeen on the North. A long way out but less stressful to get into if travelling from the north, avoiding most of the traffic; but a great relaxing seaside park with excellent transport to the CBD etc. Bit pricey though with BIG discounts for CMCA members & normal discounts for the rest of us.

Good public transport prices for pensioners & seniors in Sydney.

The Lane Cove and Narabeen parks are on the wrong side of the city if you are heading for Helensburgh. Some closer ones would be Heathcote Tourist Park (sorry don't have a number for that one), Sydney Tourist Park at Miranda Ph: 1300 366 958, or even in the Wollongong area, which is just a short run up the free way to Helensburgh. The tourist office at Wollongong should be able to help you, their number is 1800 240 737.

Please keep in mind that I am not recommending, or otherwise, any of these parks as I don't have personal experience of them as they are a bit too close to where I live to be a place that I would stay. This info is just to help you out.

I agree with MA in that you should look at staying around the Woollongong area.
It is only a short drive to Helenburg from there.All the other parks are mainly on the north side of Sydney.

Have a look at This map and see where the southern Sydney parks are. Forget the Woronora Caravan Park as it is totally residential.

The Heathcote Tourist Park is between the railway and the highway. Some report it as not being too noisy as it is a little above both the road and railway. The light sleepers disagree.

Ma has got another hole in one, I personally would stay down the North Wollongong area, the train services to Sydney are great and there is heaps to do in the area between Sydney and the Gong...

Also you are in a great position to do day trips further South along the coast without the van in tow, especially in places like Kiama where parking is a premium at the best of times.

Have a great time in Sydney but bring ya woolies cause its still cool down here...and it can get chilly down along the coast.

Just had 3 weeks at the lane cove c/park.the only noise there is air traffic but they seem to rotate that every couple of days to other areas.
May be a bit far from where you want to go but its a 10min easy walk to the new railway & bus station. If you have a conseccion card a $2.50 ticket will give you all day on trains, buses & ferries. The train ticket will take you as far as newcastle, blue mts & kiama. We never used the car in the time we were there , have to go back again mid sept & this is where we are staying.

Don't forget to climb the Bridge while you are there. Well worth it.

Well it looks like the GONG is the place to be, love the transport being there, and the drives, infact we have decided not to move on up the coast, but stay arround Sydney for a week or two.

Would love to climbed the bridge, but after a life of climbing ladders I have enough trouble climbing into bed hehe, wonder if Wendy would piggyback me. dream on Davo.

when my wife and i climbed it, a 82 yr young lady done it as well. only a few steps, the rest is a gradual climb, like going over a hill. dont miss the chance, takes about 5 hours from wo to go.
