Perisher Blue

Has anyone taken a caravan down to Jindabyne during the snow season and skiied there, we live North Brisbane and would like to do a ski season there next year. We are caravan virgins getting our van, Franklin X-Factor, on 26th August 2010 and would appreciate any advice.

Never been in the snow in a caravan. However my son and his g/f camped in their tent at Thredbo the other weekend in the snow. Having said that the son and the g/f are very experienced bushwalkers with all the good gear. When we were younger and fitter we camped quite a few times in below freezing conditions at Adaminiby in a tent with the daughter not much more than a baby. Hope you get advice from more experienced campers than myself. I do remember though years ago at Adaminiby when three campers in a van were killed by their gas heater. Not at all saying it cant or shouldnt be done but as I said... get some good advice..  You get your van in two days time!!!!!    congrats and hope and expect it will be all you expect it to be.....

We were camped at Jindabyne few xmas's ago and it snowed!  Had xmas dinner at Eagle's Nest up the chair lift from thredbo.  What a blast.  First time ever in a blizzard.  We still had our camper trailer.

It's so popular down that way in the snow season that this park is $29 per powered site in the summer and $39 in the winter.

Not for me!

We camped in the van up that way a couple years ago and in the morning according to my wireless 3 point weather station it was warmer in the fridge than in the van itself!  Never again.

If you like that stuuff then go for it but for as you say "caravan virgins" you may be better off losing your cherry on good sealed dry bitumen roads before tackling the icy roads.

Don't forget to pack the snow chains.

Cheers Neil
