Hi Fellow campers.....I have just arrived home after Three Months on the road......Have found it a very trying expierance..I honestly believe that I will consertrate on thye Mighty Murray in future.....QLD and NSW are the end ogf the Line as far as I'm concerned....I'm not poor! "But! they charge like wounded Bulls....And I may add....I do not think all the Motor Home and Caravan clubs are helping at all. They are toothless Tigers...Useless as tits on a Bull..As for the Camp 5 Book.....I want a refund.....I suggest you all out there email councils and Govenment Depts and tell them what you want

Really welcome, thats interesting. I thought my Camps Aust was my bible. I know you have to update online from time to time but most info would be current. Also thought Qld had far more free camps than Vic would ever have.
Have to agree with you milo, so many trips are twin share. Was looking at a package for Bali, all the good prices are for twin share. very annoying.

I can't comment on the cost comparison between Qld and Vic as I haven't managed to travel to Vic for many years.
But in regards to the Camps 5 book, my sister and her husband use it all the time and have found it great. They're long time nomads...well before they were grey... and rarely stay in C/parks.
Dont forget its not just at caravan parks, i would love to go on a cruise but i have to pay extra just to have the room to myself...
I want to go on a cruise but because I don't have 3 friends I can't go in a shared cabin so would be forced to pay heaps more for single accommodation. I am happy to share with other women I don't know, I mean, a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet.

Enjoy life above ground...you will spend a lot of time under it
We found our Camps 4 invaluable on our 5 month trip Welcome.
As for the coastal areas, IMHO anywhere south of Kiama NSW is OK and anywhere North of Mackay QLD is OK. The bit in the middle is too commercialised and too many people. I'll take the back blocks any day.
We are not solo travellers but having just returned to our home in WA after traveling up the east coast and back across the centre and then the Nullarbor we are also disillusioned with the state and the cost of the caravan parks. Is is any wonder that caravan parks are closing as the developers close in and take over. One particular town in Queensland comes to mind and that is Mareeba. It has a rodeo ground that is available to people with caravans, mobile homes, buses and any other type of camper. We paid $14.00 per night and stayed for a week. this particular ground can cater for up to 350 sites and I do not know of any caravan park that can cater for that many sites. We found that we enjoyed our free camping much more that being squashed into a caravan park where a lot of people are in their vans or campers watching TV at 5.30 and do not wish to mix. I believe that there needs to be a campain to lobby the powers to be in each state to create more facilities for campers at reasonable prices. I would welcome the opportunity to be involved in any lobbying of our state governments. With the rapid growth of the baby boomers and the many single travellers that we came across something needs to be done for us all!!!!! Regards to all, Rob.
Not sure what your problem is with the Camps 5 book as you havn't really told us, but most of us grey nomads I believe are very happy with it & think it is well worth the money.
We have been on the road for a year now & between the Camps 5 book & Badgers web site(myparklist.com) we travel at least knowing we are most times getting the best deals possible.
Cheers
Jon

Home is where we hang our hats - Home now in Yamba NSW
Having recently completed a trip east from WA, through central SA, NSW, Qld, NT and across the top to WA and south, I found the Camps 5 worth it's weight in gold, the mostly beautiful spots for camping and the savings in park fees (we are on a pension) for our 14,000 kms trip really helped reduce our overall costs. We stayed at caravan parks too, depending on location and time spent there etc, so the parks did not miss out either, just made our trip more affordable.
I believe Camps 6 will be out in the not too distant future, someone told me about the end of next year (2011) however I don't know if that is correct.
The Camps book has my vote !!

Have to agree totally, there is free parking all over the country.
Good everning all.
Just joined this week and quite enjoy reading all your inputs. As not an Australian born citizen, I'm not fully understand the .... free OVERNIGHT parking law for travellers in a campervan.
Can you assist me in the following spots
1. on streets in a CBD -> if there are signs regarding the business hours parking ) : my assumption that can park there after hours/overnight. Or on quiet streets away from CBD or main town ?
2. on streets along beaches or parks ( normal parks / not national parks ) -> as long as there is no restricted signs from councils, parking overnight should be ok ?
3. open car park of shopping centres ?
4. please provide example of other spots or locations that you have been parked overnight free near the CBD or in main town .
Note : understood that Camp 5 book is a good resource for travellers.
I hope to be able to have a mixture of free camps and paid sites to reduce costs and to increase the time of enjoying this beautiful country. Thanks all in advance.
Some National Parks charge for camping, but its always per person, which would give the solo traveller a bit of an advantage. Caravan parks usually charge for the site (=2people) Hope this helps.
