Does any one drive a ford AWD territory? & your thoughts on its capabilities.
This question is on behalf of a family member, they have a duel cab navara, 6ft alloy tray & alloy canopy with a unused camper trailer. this unit was all ready to travell when the partener had a stroke, needless to say it has,nt turned a wheel since then.
They are looking to sell this & buy a soft 4wd wagon with the need to carry a wheel chair, do some trips & stay at fixed accomodation. As Iv,e said before we never know which day our life will be changed.[A real bugger]

G'day JC, I dont own or drive a Territory but they are renowned for extremely high fuel use, the AWD wouldnt help either and Ford has been very slow to rectify major ball joint/steering problems ( it took over 2 years for them to recall vehicles) Perhaps google Graeme Smith motoring writer who has mentioned these problems many times in his reports....ASK Smithy and or Ford Territory problems. Would Hyundai's I van diesal/auto be suitable for wheelchair friendly access, and room to bed down etc...good price, warranty and reliability, cheers mate, Ozi
I agree somewhat with ozi2. I tow with a 2WD Territory and consider it the best tow vehicle I've ever owned, however it's heavy on Petrol and probably an over kill for a Camper Trailer. I would suggest you look at something like the Hyundai Santa Fe or the Kia Sorento 4X4's. Both run the same hi-tec 2.2 Lt CRD motor. Cheers, ozjohn.

Hi Jim, Stay well away from them friend of mine had one heavy on fuel and if you are lucky enough for the transmission to give out it will ony cost you $6500 for repair. Cheers
My partner has a Ford BF sedan.......we looked at Ford Territory and saw a BF falcon in a different body shell.......exactly same interior and dash as her BF........I've been happy with my Pajero
Howdy Jim, thanks for your post re Ford Territory, would you happen to know what your friend was towing with the Terriatory?. We have a 2008 AWD with 6speed auto & sequential shift plus it has a oil cooler fitted of course. What we tow at the moment is a 16'6" Millard poptop with with an ATM of approx 1800kg. So far so good with the territory and I average about 12-13litres per 100klm. Am intrigued to find out how your friends territory done the auto box. Hope you can help me.
Gidday Croc ! I have the territory AWD 6 Speed on my short list as a replacment tug, that fuel consumption sounds reasonable to me, I assume that is the Klms you get when not towing, also also how many Klm have you done, and have you had any other problems !!! most of the complaints i read seem to be related to them being to heavy on fuel !!! I know the standard Territory with the 4 speed and 2 wd are virtually bulletproof as they have the same running gear as the Falcon and there is a lot of high klm one around, that have only had niggly little problems over their life Rgs dazren
PS. if i go the territory way, i would be putting it on dual fuel Injected gas !!!
Hi Ozjohn Could you advise what sort of economy your territory is returning, both Towing and not towing, also has it been basically reliable, over how many Klms !!!! Thks Dazren
Gidday OZI2 I believe Smithy believes ford is on top of that ball joint issue now and from what i have read it was mainly confined to models from 2004 to 2007 but you are right it did take them a long time and a lot of pressure for them to get around to fixing the problem Rgs Dazren
Hi dazren, thanks for your reply. the average litres per 100k's is between 13 -14.5 whilst towin the millard loaded. we are awaiting dely of a Golden Eagle 18'6 hardtop and whilst it is well within the legal towing capacity of the territory it will be a good test for fuel consumption.... willl keep you informed.
I have friend who has 2007 Falcon sedan and a work issued 2009 ford Territory they have a camper trailer , 2007 falcon has more power when towing regards pick up than the Territory same size motor Territory heavier than the falcon that why they use more fuel

That sounds really good Croc. I know three people who have Territories and they tow jayco poptops and they don't get anywhere near that. Your mate must have one of the better ones. I'm not being a smart "A" here. I would be really interested to hear what sort of consumption you get with your Eagle.
Thanks to all for the replies, almost every thing said here confirm the same stories that I,m getting from around here, I had a talk to my best mate last night , he was the head mechanic at the ford dealership when we had one in town. Heavy on fuel, hard on suspension bushes, not very good as a 4x4, front diff is very small, etc etc.Have given it the miss,
Ay this stage I think I convinced the to keep the commodore s/w they have ,as the wheel chair fits in ok, sell the navara & trailer. save the cash they would have to spend on a changeover & drive to selected areas, & pay to go on some guided tours in buses , 4x4 s etc that cater for the disable people , that way she will have some help on those days out & be in front at the end of the day.
If this comes off ok then there will be a very good low kls navara & almost new trailer up for sale. Ive had a hard talk to them with an outside veiw of the situationthat I have been watching for three years, had to lay a few hard facts on the line so I hope ive got it right.
Again , thanks to all & we will see how things unfold. If I dissapear you,ll know i got it wrong. LOL. but I think you,ll be stuck with me for a while. Cheers

G'day JC, your friends are very fortunate to have your friendship and sound advice. What you are suggesting makes financial sense, offers them the opportunity to still get out and about whilst reducing the stress and workload on them both. Australia's domestic travel market is booming and there is no reason why they can't get a reasonable return on their vehicles. All the best, Ozi
Hi justcruising. We have a 2004 TS territory and Jayco poptop 17 ft. We love our territory and plan to buy the same next time around. Hubby says fuel consuption without van is about 11 lts per 100 ks and about 15 lts per 100ks. I find it a very comfortable car to use. Lots of space and very versatile. Also has good safety features and lots of leg room in the back seat. We have taken ageing parents away with us who commented on the comfort in the back. We also carry a very small tinny sometimes. Hope you find something you like, but I do love my Territory.
Hi Just Cruisin' Friend of mine is in the Ford game. Told me to hold off until the new Fords are coming out next year - new range across the board. The Territory will be coming out with the long awaited Turbo Diesel 6 cylinder engine - the proven Range Rover motor! Well worth waiting for if you can afford it, I say.
