i spent about 4 years in intelligance corp. After applying for armour, engineers and infantry i was put in Int. and stuck behind a desk at JIO Russell offices Canberra. Hence the brevity of my service. The time i spent at Kapooka, CUNUNGRA (JUNGLE TRAINING) and Woodside (Corp training ) was possibly the best of my life until recently.
Was only a 'Cut Lunch Commando" for 2yrs & 355 days with the 'Dropshorts'... Field Artillery, in the 60's. Spent lots of time on the parade ground and at Tin Can Bay.
ps. Currently reading David Horner's History of the SAS "Phantoms of War" an updated edition of "Phantoms of the Jungle" excellent account written by a well credentialed authour. (ISBN 1 86058 647 9)

Does being the grandaughter, daughter, ex-wife (of 25 yrs) and mother of a seviceman count?
Have met so many ex-service people on our travels, that I am starting to wonder if the military service lifestyle is what begins the restlessness thats in all of us grey nomads, and the need to "get out there"
My dad is Navy ww2 , was on the Kapunda and the Australian ? before it got hit,?
I tried to join once but cuase I've had so many health problems in my past they wouildnt take me, would love to be a tech guy or something.. even not going OS but maybe just home based, but thats the breaks, same with work .. .oh well.. I always go to anzac day with my dad, and also went to turkey for anzac day, that was awsome... any ways my hats off to you who got to serve..
Count me as a member of this 'elite' group of raggedy old codgers - I did my 20 yrs as a Grunt from 1968-88, Vietnam 1970-71 with 2RAR, and numerous other grunt postings spread around the country from Townsville to Port Agusta/Whyalla, as well as Singleton. Enjoyed every bloody minute of it!!
We have met lots of vets on the road to date, and looking forward to meeting up with lots more when we hit the road next year.

Gerty being the relative counts even more because more often than not you are the ones that take the slack and cop the aftermath of bad command decisions when we get home...
Milo you made the effort to join, you went and offered your services thats what counts.....
How's Ben doing mate, hope he's OK.
