Hey Happy,

I see no problem there, so long as the dog is well kept and doesn't smell or dirty inside the cabin there should be no real issue, but that being said....

The state health laws do come into play, I am not an expert in that area, but I am aware that health rules do control the situation somewhat....I will leave that for a person who is appropriately qualified to comment.

I travel a fair bit and sometimes stay at youth hostels. My dogs sleep on the truck in their crates, which are covered up and I don't have a problem. They are very quiet dogs, which also helps.

I occasionly stay in cabins in caravan parks, and would object strongly if I had to stay in a cabin where pets were allowed, sorry, people inside dogs outside and I dont think I am in a minority

OKay I am pet free atm, (would luv to get another dog, border collie pref) I see no reason to place your best mate outside simply because they have four legs instead of two, a well mannered/behved and well looked after dog is often less trouble than a child, believe me Ive been there in both instances.

Dogs feel the cold just like we do, would yoube happy if it was a dogs only place and yougot tossed outside because you were human....bring back images of The Flinstones opening where the big cat puts Fred outside...Wiillllmmmmmaaaaaaa !!!!!

Our old dog sleeps inside but the problem with caravan parks is you dont know if the dog is clean or smelly, so if I was to run a park there would be no pets inside. If traveling with pets it is your responability to provide a warm safe sleeping area for your dog, be it a dog box or in the car, its not the responability of the caravan park.

No argument there, what you have in your van is no ones business but your own, but cabins are another thing. DOG NUTS please remember not every one shares youe desire to share a bed or kitchen with a dog

When I had my little dog Mindy and we travelled Vic to Qld. I made her a doona just for her. She took up the back seat of my car usually on top of other packed goods there and would make herself a cave inside the folded up doona. Some nights were so cold, in the morning when I woke I couldn't see inside the car for the frost on the window.
She would look so sorry for herself when I got her out for a quick walk, and would admonish me with dirty looks that she hadn't been able to sleep on my bed like she did at home.
But we managed and after a few attempts on trying to read the dog friendly book (Travelling with pets) which was never right I threw it away and worked it out for myself as we went along.

At the NSW Iluka Anchorage Van Park they allow dogs all year round in the park and have two cabins which they allow dogs under conditions . Very well appointed park and reasonable rates

I have no problem with dogs in Parks and cabins under strict conditions unfortunately some people sign the tenancy agreement but then just do as they please The park provides poo bags at the park entry for those who take their mut for a walk but some owners just walk their mut over the river bank and let it go for a run which is contrary to the council bye laws and good owner practice.

We recently managed a dog friendly park in Adelaide associated with a National Park that also allowed dogs on leads. A valuable concession at Belair for tourists and locals alike. No effect on tourism but an asset for all, but with no problems from responsible owners in their own accomodation it was apparent there are those that try to stretch rules, based on hygiene and local council regulations it amazes us that the choice by travellers to have dogs is their own and some inconvenience is to be expected. I also would not like to reside in a cabin that has had animals in it and for asthmatics especially try to contend with the unknown.
Did you know the Hilton, five star in Adelaide allows dogs in their rooms, probably limited, but I sure would want to stay out of them. Unnecessary I think.
I believe and would try to implement to change the no dog attitude in parks, Big4 never but others could review their policy for we have found not a problem at Belair. Strong managership and reasonable owners can control problems.

Hmmm. Strong topic, and interesting read, but I can see both points of view. It's a hard one, but I guess if your pet is going to travel with you, that's something you have to take into consideration before first leaving home. My pets have always been allowed inside our home, but then I've always ensured they're clean and healthy. Sometimes on our travels, I have seen things that make me think that some pet owners should be kept outside and only the pet allowed inside.

I don't like the idea of dogs in cabins any more than smokers in cabins. While our friends on here may do the right thing, I reckon there'd be many who would have the dog sleep on the bed with them, and that wouldn't be fair for the next person who came into the cabin.

How you live in your own home or caravan is your business, but when you've rented a room that others will use, it's just not on, as far as I'm concerned.

I totally agree Beth. I for one don't want doggy hair on my pillow when I pay good money to spend a night in a cabin..............which is very very rare nowadays, if at all.

No dogs in cabins for me, you can't trust SOME owners not to let them sleep on the beds etc. Milo's idea is a good one too, but I could still see some letting their dogs inside and on the beds at night if it gets too cold etc.

If they were designated cabins where they were allowed then fair enough, as long as the park owner advises all that are booking whether or not a particular cabin is used for dogs also.

No dogs in cabins for me either. They are not all like Molly. She doesn't smell doggy and sleeps with me every night but the thought of other dogs' fur etc would really put me off. And I'm a dog nut. So I got a motorhome and she can travel with me in comfort.

I have two dogs and love them to bits. They don't travel with us because I feel its too restrictive on the places we want to go and the kids look after them for us.

We stayed in cabins on one trip, when it was raining and I wouldn't like to think a dog of any sort had been in there. Nor any other animal for that matter, its all about your health really isn't it. smile

Hi. I know there are dogs and dogs and I know there are humans and 'umans but, from what I've seen some dogs could teach some 'umans a thing or to. On another point, am I right in thinking some Big 4s will allow, if you check first and pay $30:00, A (1) dog to stay at their park? If you have 2, then one sleeps outside the fence? Havago.
