well low and behold ive had this mole near my belly buttonfor years doc and i have always kept an eye on it, last four weeks it got itchy, i went to doc for reference to go visit bowen therapy lady, before i left i said oh best take alook at this ,wellshe had me back in one hour cut it out, that was two weeks ago, monday i sat behind her desk to be told it is melanoma.
so it is back under the knife for a larger incision on friday just after noon im not looking forward to it, but apparently im lucky i showed her the mole when i did its level 3 but less than 1mm so i have 7 stitches have been removed and will now go back for another cut ,this time 6cm long each side and wide .
after that total rest apparently (of which i find very hard to do ) and i mean very hard im a little goer, secondly i have a six pack as they say for a stomach or washboard stomach so sewing back together was rather difficult for doc last fortnight so cant imagine what its going to be like this time .im scared a bit, but i know this thing happens to thousands so i am staying positive and just glad we caugh it when we did. hubby was astounded.
will keep you guys posted in the meantime wish me luck for friday the needle stings like Sh###t but gotta do what ya gotta do hey .
Hi Glassies, I wish you all the best mate, I will say a couple of nice words to a good friend of mine that know's the right words to say up top. He said couple for me 3 months ago when I had my prostate remove, It will take over 12 months for me to recover as i no how you feel Glassies and I will be thinking of you on Friday afternoon, All the Best cheers Mick
I'm sure that luck is on your side anyway cos' the most important thing is to catch it early and it seems that you have done that...so half the battle is already won!!!
Everything has a hidden benefit. I remember one of your early posts... this might just be the thing that persuades your hubby to get on the road a bit more.
Wife and I were caravanning on the beach earlier this year.
She came out of the van with her swimmers on and I pointed to a blister on the side of her thigh and said "whats that". She looked and said "dont know, never noticed it before". It was about half the size of my little fingernail and a pinkish colour.
Upon our return home she went to the family GP who said its nothing, but keep an eye on it.
She had an appointment with a skin specialist on another matter a few weeks later and pointed it out to him. He said thats coming out straight away, and so is that freckle on your arm.
Both the blister and the freckle looked like nothing. The blister was a blister and the freckle looked like a slightly larger than normal freckle.
They both turned out to be melanomas.
She was put under the knife by a surgeon for wide excision of both areas. Also had lymph nodes removed to see if the cancer had travelled, which fortunately it hadn't.
A couple of days in hospital. A few weeks of anxiety.
Its all good now.
Lessons to be learned here. Dont necessarily trust your GP. And dont ignore any blemish that may appear out of the blue.
I inspect her regularly. She now doesn't mind me having a perv.....
Hang in there glassies, best wishes.
Cheers Ross
ps. I used to have a six pack, looks more like a keg these days.

Had one cut out of the bridge of my nose a few years ago. I do have a rather prominent proboscis, but being on the bridge part I was a little worried about the doc finding enough excess skin to sew it back up to its pristine best. I needent have worried, this asian fellow must have been a tailor in his past life as my snoze is so good my resident fleas now use it as a ski slope.
All the best Glassies Jon

All the best for Friday glassies, good you found it early. We all should take heed from roscos story about his wife, a lesson learnt. My sister has to have a biopsy on a area of skin on her cheek, hoping that will be good news too.
your all such a wonderful bunch ,what lovely kind words ive been researching and researching even looked up the stuff black salve on utube have to take a look if you havent as of yet, but my hubby is dead set noooo way you are goin back under that knife again whether you like it or not.
Yep you are right about that idea ofa holiday we are planning getting the truckthat our employee drives in smicko nick so we may pee off for two whole weeks in june next year for my 50th ,not sure if we will do the top end or karumba yet , friends want to go with us from the subie club but not keen on the car goin to top end (there car that is) so apparently its tarred all the way to Karumba now so we may do that and a spot of barra fishing while we are at it and visit the undarra caves i think they are called from memory.
once again i thank you all for your lovely wishes it realy is so nice to hear good words of support ill let you know how it all goes keep you posted so to speak .
that washboard stomach is a gonna be stingin tomorrow thats for take care all you out on the roads :)
I've had a piece taken off the bridge of my nose several years ago too. A Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). A few other suspect bits and pieces too. I'm pretty paranoid about my skin, as Dad had heaps of skin cancers, and I have the same type of skin. Many years ago, he had half his nose taken and then had a skin graft.
I usually get my GP to check them, but after reading some of these stories, I think I'll go to an expert next time.
I'm also pretty paranoid about covering up and sunscreen. ALWAYS wear a hat outdoors.
I wish you all the best too Glassies. Hope it all goes well and you're not too uncomfortable afterwards.
spent 12 months seeing 2 G.Ps a podiratrist and a dermatologist for treatment of a suspected fungal growth, under the nail of my big toe. Finally, being almost unable to walk properly, i had day surgery with an orthopedic surgeon who removed the nail and had to cut down to the bone to remove, what turned out to be a skin cancer. The point being, if in any doubt, have it checked, any get a second opinion if you have any doubts. They can turn up anywhere. All the best for tomorrow Glassies

As they say, "Better out than in!" In the case of any skin cancer, the surgery has to be the preferable to the alternative, leaving it there. We are now so aware of skin issues, and with the advantage of all this knowledge we can keep on top of these problems. I consulted a skin cancer clinic in Cairns while I've been here, had a couple of sus spots removed, with "all clear" as the result. Isn't modern medicine wonderful! Two ops in 6 months to remove faulty body parts reminds me every day of how lucky I am. Surgery is always a worry, but we have to trust the surgeons know what they're doing. Relax, let them do their job and allow yourself to heal to enjoy the rest of your life, which you may not have had, if you didn't detect the problem. It will all be good. Just allow yourself to heal.

thanks guys im home and rested up on couch with my trusty laptop ,all went well am stitched up the pain killer hasnt worn off yet so i feel not so bad waitin for the stinging pain that happens when the needles wear off, i must say dr shane luland at landsborough medical centre wouldhave to be the most caring wonderful doc, he was even better than my own who handed me over to him because hes so good at his job.
hes done a few of these ,so he did give me extra anestetic which made it a lot more comfy soon as i started tofeel anything he shoved yet another needle in there so six rather large stitches and covered up all is well so far gotta keep an eye on the bleeding for now .
thanks everybody for thinking of me today take care and yep keep an eye on all them moles sun spots anything ,like i said mine activated within four weeks eventhough i had it for years the change was drastic .
Hi Glassies, "Well done Girl" It's really great that it all went well. Good to see all the support that became though for you. look after your self now darling and safe travelling in the future. Cheers, your friend in need Mick

It's great to hear all went well, and when the soreness passes in a few days you'll be jogging around the block in no time. And you couldn't do that before the op. The wonders of modern medicine. The wounds always hurt, but you know what it is, why it hurts, and it will heal a little every day. Allow yourself time to heal. Don't rush it or get impatient. It's all good.
