Ah yes i can see management and I paying $1610 a week for a cabin. If thats what its going to cost for a cabin what will it cost for a van site? Apart from easter when we camp with the grandkids the North NSW coast is a no go area for us.

After My trip up North.Via the They can have the Coast all to themselves anyway...Inland for me in Future..Up the Leichhardt..Camp fires and Solar and a nice cuppa with the good Folk...It's so unfair when one gets onto a good wicket these fat cats want more money.....Well I say they can go to buggery

YES they don't call them caravan parks anymore , Holiday village are the new name Cabins and playground lovely Family Parks Young modern family plenty of money they don't want us old farts , I really don't want to be at those type parks go West leave the Coast to the trendy

While they're trying to please the 5 star campers with the cabins and playgrounds, they're forgetting about the humble happy camper and grey nomad pensioners.
I for one will not be frequenting those up-market, money hungry parks.
The clean and simple is my preferred option.
There is a broad range of customers who camp at van parks, and they all have to be catered to.
It's not just on the coast. It's at all the popular tourist destinations.
I'm going bush to enjoy the hospitality of the locals.

Have been a happy camper for years and only tried caravan parks once. All the noise, closed in feeling and children on skate boards. Give me the bush any day. but.. I resent not being able to enjoy the coastal areas should I wish to do so.

All the parks are doing it so there has to be money in it. Some over peak periods will not accept a cabin booking under 14 days. And with the off peak season becoming smaller and smaller, especially close to the boarders, where the states have different school hols. Anyone traveling by van ,camper or tent isn't going to come up with those dollars just to stay in a cabin , may as well stay home or go to Bali for the entire month and lounge around the pool bar.

Now that sounds like a plan

greediest council would have to be the gold coast city council who has put in over 150 cabins in the last 5 years and have earmarked another 40 cabins to go in this year to there 7 parks.they don't want sites at $30 -$40 a night when they can get $150 a night for a cabin.cheap accomodation for the gold coast in prime positions.

I have just this moment send off an email to the Gold Coast City Council....And told them off......This should make the creeps sit up and take notice.....I told them that the sea is going to reclaim all the Coast 100 meters Inland.....Can you imagine what that would look like?

Would have to be more than 100 metres from what I have seen on some docos. All low lying land right to the hills could go under, in a giant swell. Just imagine all those manmade waterways. Everything around there and beyond will be under water one day.

Although Caravan Parks have their place, I prefer not to use them where possible. I don't like being so closed in.

We're a family of campers. My two brothers, my sister, their families, my kids..we like to at least camp together at Easter, but only on private property, in the bush!

My sister and brother-in-law have just bought their retirement home (land actually) in Cooloola Cove, near Tin Can Bay Qld. So we're already calling it 'the caravan park'. Although the house will take a while to build, we're all going up to camp from Boxing Day.

This will only be their base though. They've been caravanning the country for years.

And Welcome, I agree..the Gold Coast is going to be in BIG trouble with the predicted cyclones this season. As for the rise in the sea level, I believe that too.

Hitler was a bloody dictator & they got rid of him , needs more of the same doing again.This is what happens when we loose people power, we are expected to accept every thing that they hand out & be greatfull, dont think so.

Just look at the protests over seas the other day when they wanted to raise the retirement & pension age by two years,there should be more of it. We are all to ready to sit back & say , well thats the way it is, when we should be able to stand up & fight for our rights.

Hope the day comes when these theiving , money hungry B$$$$$$$s need some accomodation it is out of their reach, but that wont be as they are the fat cats causing all of this.

The only conclusion I draw from all of the problems that we are faced with today is that if we have lived through the 60,70,& 80s we have seen the best ,it will never come around again in our time.

As for their $1600 a week for a cabin , I would not pay that just on princeable even if I was rolling in$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hi All.

Roughly on this topic, I was at the council meeting at Cotton Tree this year. The two things that stood out in the council reps speech about significanly increased prices was a) location, location, and b) demand v supply. In other words, regardless of whether the people present were planning on returning, others would still come.

On enquiring about 2011 recently, as they expected their bookings are going very well, and they are only accepting +10 week bookings at the moment.

We collectively need to vote with our feet and support those van parks which support us.

Do you mean you can only book for a 10 week stay or am I reading that wrong.
A lot of people including me would have no intention of staying in the one place for 10 weeks.

Hi Happy Wanderer.

For winter bookings in 2011, at this stage Cotton Tree will only accept 10+ week bookings. If you require less (we were looking at 8 weeks) you need to ring again in March 2011.

We rang in March this year for a winter booking and got 4 weeks ok. Not sure what will happen in 2011 - will have to wait and see. We're now thinking we may go further up as $39 a night for a standard powered site in winter is getting a bit exe. However we may find councils at Hervey Bay, Gladstone area and Bundaberg area may well be applying similar increases.

Should be interesting the next few years.

They must lose a lot of customers having those rules and also those prices. Go further up, there were a lot cheaper around the Bundy region last year. A site for around 100 a week i heard.

We think we'll revisit Bargara Beach and also try Tannum Sands and Scarness in 2011. I suspect however that others will just fill our spot at Cotton Tree, even with the elevated prices for 2011.

The end result in places like Cotton Tree will inevitably be a fall off in patronage as prices continue rising, and eventually a rezoning to allow redevelopment of resort and apartment accommodation.
