RE: Survey - What State is your vehicle registered?

Just playing (attempting to?) devils advocate brickies. Have lived on the border for nearly 30 years and this has been an ongoing discussion here for all that time. It encompasses not just roads/ rego but all public facilities like pools /parks/libraries and the list goes on. I have a memory of a couple of local govt areas wanting to charge non residents for the use of their roads etc (can't remember where or result). Proposed congestion taxes in Sydney could be considered another form? I agree that the system can be manipulated for many reasons from cost to licence cancellation etc. If inclined i could register all my vehicles and licences in Vic and save a lot of money. I pay more to register my box trailer in NSW than I do for my 20 ft van in Vic.  As an aside both my Vic address and NSW address are on the Vic rego papers (garaged and postal) and vicroads were fine with that. I am just trying to point out the ridiculous situations created by state borders and the lack of action by all levels of government to resolve the issues. It affects a lot of people, including people like us on this forum who travel or live full time on the road. Bring on National rego!!

One country, one set of rules in my book.  Get rid of all state borders and Governments.

Terry mate. I joined the forces in 1964.That was the last time I lived in one spot.Medically discharged in 1969. Started in the oil game lived and worked all over the world. Rang my mother and father once a week to let them know I was alive. In 1997 I retired. Got a tug and then a van. Both the regos are in S.A. Why you ask I will tell you when regos  and  insurances are dew a old mate of mine rings and tells me and I pay them. O! and how did booze get into this.

Yes Popeye it is has easy has that that's your base and I would think any body on the road full time would still have to have a base address for all sort of reasons and that would be the state were you renew your license and rego

Most travellers have a legal mail address for licences etc.
One recent change for WA vehicle registration is there is no more windscreen stickers.
They still post out receipt but no sticker saves WA Govt $90,000 per annum :)

With your receipt they suggest you do NOT carry it in vehicle as it may be stolen.
When this was queried for those travelling in other States Dept said it is all on computer. Pity States systems aren't compatible.blankstare

Unlike the state of many of the older vehicles on the road, mine was in great nick when it was registered.  confusewinkbiggrin
