That's a much better idea Crow from our point of view anyway. Probably not so good from the vendor's side of things. They would only get what they should get, not what they do get.
Back in the mid 70s when living in Pt Lincoln I took my 9Kg cylinder to the bulk gas depot to be filled. It was put on scales & the gas was pumped in under pressure just like a vehicle. When it got to the set weight the scales shut the pump off & was only charged for what was put in. Havent seen this system since. But I bet that is how Swap&Go cylinders are filled. Daryl
I know a guy that built a motor mome from a coaster bus, he fitted a car gas tank under the bus & had it set up to run all his gas appliances,& just refill from the servo.

I have a friend who work at a petrol station who reckons that swap and go is the only way they can sell lpg has to have a filling station for cylinders you need to have a extra person on standby in case somebody wants a cylinder fill , The person on duty can't leave the shop unattended or lock the shop up while they go outside to the LPG station filling area which has to be an approved filling point , this may be why filling station are harder to find in some area because of staffing arrangement this maybe why caravan builders are installing twin cylinders . also it is all about choices if you don't think the price is fair don't buy and winge to the world we have all the time in the world so if we can't plan how we buy gas we shouldn't be on the road

If people DON"T come online and share their good AND bad retail experiences how then can one plan where to buy.
Genuinne fair prices are acceptable to anyone I reckon but when, for example in the same town (Karratha WA comes to mind here) a well known gas outlet charges $38 a 9kg refill while his competitor in a backstreet charges $26 for the same bottle then I am happy to share this information.
Cheers Neil
BTW, off topic but back to the GOOD Scotch, I learnt to close my eyes and block my nose as I sip the nectar! If I smell it, or see it coming my damm mouth waters and dilutes it - can't have that now can we!

Slightly OT, but your comment reminded me of buying Margaret (Markup) River wine direct from the vineyard and bottling plant, buying at the source you would think it would be cheaper.
However you can buy the same brand cheaper at our local bottle shop in the Perth suburbs, when you consider that ok they buy in bulk but still have transport costs included in their price it doesn't make sense that you have to pay more where it's made???? Just a small sample of one price rip off in this area.

Well the closer you live to the oil refinery the more you pay for petrol and autogas. Rip off all around us.

I know of at least one ex and one current servo owners (different companies) who both told me that the gas for both the Autogas pumps and the LPG tanks are filled from the same tank on the tankers........in other words both gasses are the same. EXCEPT it costs more to have your gas cylinder filled than your auto.......Perhaps that is because an attendant has to fill it.
Apparently (highly illegal) you can buy an adaptor to fill from an auto gas source but don't get caught doing it at a servo or your pump will be turned off immediately and you will be in hot water !!

It is my understanding, and I could well be wrong and I'm sure someone will let me know, that the gas you put in your car and the gas we fill our bottles with is one and the same but the powers that be won't let them fill the bottles from the same source as our cars.
I think from memory, someone told me, that the price of the gas for the cars is a fair bit cheaper than the gas for our bottles.
Spot on Ma.........some will try to tell you they are different gasses, but they are the same as you say!
This filling "from the same tanker" does happen at times but don't count on it. The owner of our local service station said that some times the same tanker fills both but at other times separate tankers come.

I did a swap with my 2 yr old 9kg barbie bottle and got one with 6 months to run. Also a 9kg gas bottle does not weigh 9kg when full or 9kg more than when it was empty..I know its off topic but it matters if you are close to your gross

Memo to self...check date when swapping bottles. My "9 kilo" bottles are actually labelled 8.5 Kg (I'm confused ) These are "Kwik Gas" swapped at Bunnings, one is dated 02-2008 and the other 07-2009 so they have plenty of time to run.

Don't be too concerned about dates, if they are "KwikGas" or any other Swap bottles then they will not refuse to swap them even if they are out of date!
It is not like they will blow up the day after the 'use by'.
Cheers Neil
