Hi everyone, well home for 3 days and feet are feeling itchy....after 8 weeks and 13,000 k's the enjoyment of seeing our incredible country remains with incredible memories ingrained for life. Our travels took us from our home on the NSW/Qld border South to Tasmania ( what a beautiful state, and so free camping friendly) and then returning home through South Australia and Qld. In the distance traveled we encountered so much beautiful scenery along with our historic towns that we wondered just which one was the best...........but they all are in one way or another to each and everyone of us and for us it was Birdsville and the road to Big Red in the Simpsons desert national park. We had to divert around the flood waters covering the access road and travel around the water to access the dune.........this drive was absolutely amazing for the variety of native birdlife thriving on the water and food provided by nature; on reaching the signpost to the dune we looked at the top and said.."lets go for it"and so we did, straight to the top, arriving to find we were the only people seemingly left on the planet. What an absolutely amazing sight to look out over the dune system, over the flood waters and then look up to see the birds of flight thermaling above the sand dunes. It was without a doubt one of the most magical and inspiring sights one could see and with the flood waters not a sight that too many people will experience. If you have the opportunity then dont miss it, it truly is something to see. In closing please note that I said Little Red........some one had turned the sign to Big Red around and it was Little Red that we accessed.......good thing we are'nt 4wd fanatics! Cheers Ozi2
Congrats on your trip Ozi2! It was dead dry when we crossed the Simpson to Birdsville... we still have the red dust coming out of alll the cracks and crannies of the car. And at the top of Big Red there were at least a dozen people, others on the other side waiting to attempt it. (Yes we did it in one go!)
Can you post a photo or two of the floods please ? Would be SO interesting to see.
Hi Gerty, I havent downloaded the photo's yet and it will be a pleasure to post them; there is just the little issue of how? Instructions welcomed cheers ozi2

Hi Ozi2, best way to share pics is to go to photobucket.com and make an account, then upload your pics , and videos, you can have seprate folders too..
then when there uploaded hover your mouse over the pic you want to post on here for example and where it says IMG code, click on that, and then when in this post for example, click the right mouse button and press past.. should be good to go..
