Just looked at the "Mailbag", and saw some-one complaining of signs saying "Dogs not Allowed" on some beaches.
What they probably don't realise, is the [scientifically proven over 30-odd years ago] fact that Sharks can smell a dog on a beach from about 10 miles out.
So it seems can some council appointed security guards when moving Grey Nomads on.....I remember on night at Cannonvale. A couple of good looking back/packers had asked this young bloke (Security) Where they could prop for the night.......I heard him say""You two ladies can stay here Because I'm on patrol all night..And you'll be right..I had a go at him and he was quite nasty about it.......Being found out......"Of course they made him feel good...There was more too it..Which I'll leave for now

What dogs leave behind on the beach can be really yucky if you step in it with bare feet. Some dog-owners just dont seem to get the idea of cleaning up after their dogs! Only some, mind, I'm not having a go at the dog-owners here.
I agree with Gerty, we are lucky here (Scarborough QLD) as we have a designated "dog beach", still doesn't stop people letting their dogs use the other "people beaches" as dog toilets though. The responsible owners use the dog beach the others get fined fair enough

We also have a dog designated beach but like you P & G irresponsible owners let their dogs use our "people" beaches as dunnies too. Unfortunately, the ranger is never around at the right time to issue fines.
we take our dog with us when travelling, we bring his dog house and he sleeps in there. We take a little plastic doggy bag when going for a walk and clean up after him. It is annoying to step on dog poo at the beach etc and people need to clean up after their pet. Also when there are young children digging in the sand and playing it is not very hygienic. Better to not take the dog to the beach.

Not sure about this one, very likely an urban myth in my humble opinion.
Some male sharks are known to smell a female shark from 6 miles away and can smell 1 part blood in 1 million parts of water so we know they have good smell though 10 miles seems a bit far (lady's watch out at that time of the month). Sharks can also hear prey in the water from 3,000 feet away(children are very noisy in water)
There doesn't seem to be any fact supporting them having an attraction to dogs apart from the excessive thrashing of the water that a dog can cause (children can splash more from what I have noticed)
Mythbusters did a test with a robotic dog that acted, sounded & smelled like a dog which attracted no sharks so the myth was busted in their opinion but many will say this proves nothing.
I see dogs in the water all the time, I use to watch the annual dog race from Scotland Island to Church Point in Pit****er Sydney with no incidents. From what I have noticed we hear more about people being attacked than dogs.

This was well tested on mythbusters and found to be a totally busted myth

Just had a great stay at Iluka staying at the Anchorage van park . Was some what shocked when talking to the van ark owner to find out that the black poo bags they provided at the entrance to their park were at their own expense.
It appears that Council is willing to put bags at the dog beach in an unlocked dispenser but not at other locations around town , Around the streets and water front of the Anchorage park not one dog dropping, around town in the parks heaps mainly from local dogs not campers .
I have a 50 bag dispenser pack attached to the dogs lead 3 for $2.00 at the Reject shop
Well done the Anchorage Van Park you get my vote
