Bit of a puff around 4am Christmas Day and lots of rain. Cleared up to be a dry and hot day after that with some rain in the evening. Most of the damage and floods etc were on the southern side of town and Gordonvale area.
Plenty of rain! The local creek, also called Apjohn street ,is in flood and the culvert back of the house is overflowing. But, my house, which is raised, is above it all , and the boat is safely tied up at Nelly bay harbour. You,ve got to laugh-the creek has decided to run down the road and not the creek bed.Great drainage around here!A couple of years ago, my friends catamarans floated down the street, past my house. We tied them to a mango tree.Just got a kayak for xmas- might have to use it to go to xmas dinner.........
Bill .... What sort of yak did you get?
I have a Viking Tempo Fisherman. Great stable fishing platform. Can even stand in it to cast if you want to show off. Bit of a dog to paddle long distances at speed though, but tracks well. Should have got one 10yrs ago!
For XMAS (not on the road) I cooked a ham for the first time.
Excellent result.
Used the covered BBQ - only the outside burners. Glaze was basically whiskey, maple syrup & chinese 5 spice with apple cider in the baking tray, then when 90min left to go added a crust of brown sugar & chinese 5 spice. Studded it with star anise & cloves. Had it cold with chooks & prawns & lots of SA wine etc.
It won't be the last baked ham for our family I think.
Its a 2.7m kanyon kayak I bought for $120 second hand . Its stable enough and I have put a seat with a back as it gave me cramps when I sat on it to paddle.I would love a hobie fisherman type, but they are up to $3500! a bit beyond my budget.I am looking forward to using it down south, away fromthe sharks and crocs. The sun has just come out here after a week of rain , and I hope to get some people to go fishing with me, in mycharter vessel.
