Thought it was about time I met some Grey Nomads so if you want a cuppa with me and Happy Wanderer here are the details.
When:Wednesday 12th January 2011 10 am Where: Echuca The Olive Tree Coffee Shop. I will sit in the outside area which is next to Safeway Liquor. Identification: I will take The Grey Nomad handbook with me Hope you can come.
I would also love to come over, but cancelled my car service to look at a van today and rebooked for wednesday dare not cancel again.Next time I will definately come over.Norma
Has been a hive of activity around me this arvo, sandbagging down the end of the street, rows of vehicles lined up waiting to take them to needed spots. Helicopters buzzing around over head and even got a sms alert and a home phone alert.
Rochy is in a terrible mess, poor b.......rs. 80 % supposed to be under water and evacuations to somewhere here in Echuca. Not sure how as all roads leading into Rochy closed.
Its the Campaspe and not the Murray so its the other side of town from me that will be affected. My daughter is only 3 blocks away from the campaspe on that side but in line with the secondary school they are using as the only evacuation point. They wouldn't be using it if they thought the water would get that far.
Peak time is expected to be tomorrow afternoon or evening.
It sure is a strange country. Sitting here with helicopters going overhead, sandbagging (ses filling sandbags) half a block away from me. A hot sunny day with so much humidity its unbelievable. For anyone wanting to know where its flooding go to the Shire of Campaspe website. They have a flood map up there, My street doesn't even show on the map so safe here. I'm in the East, my daughter in the west on the other side of the Campaspe but safe as in line with the evacuation centre two streets from her.
The really stupid thing the SES has set up is the evacuation centre is on the other side of the Campaspe from the town, hospital and most of the residential. If it did get serious how the hell would everyone get over there if the only bridge went under. Warren Street down by the port is flooded now so that only leaves the bridge in Ogilvie Ave and the water is just under it now, with flooding in the houses both sides.
Happy Wanderer and Pam Yes I will be there on wednesday. I am so pleased to hear you are high and dry h/w. It will be so good to meet you both. See you wednesday.
In the next street to me wombat. In the street adjoining the council yards. All safe today. The river is starting to go down slowly and only about 100 or so houses near the river in low lying areas got flooded.
Good to hear you are safe, I'm a silly buggar, when you said "(ses filling sandbags) " I thought you had put up another topic showing pics of the sandbag filling.
