Inskip Point - Tincan Bay inlet - Rainbow Beach Queensland - on the coast in from Gympie

Management and I spent two weeks at Inskip over the last two weeks of the school holidays.  Given the terrible rains in QLD it was fairly deserted.  We were there last year at the same time and it was hardly crowded.  It costs $10.50 for two persons per night.  Book at the ranger station at Rainbow or on line.  Water is available at Rainbow Beach as are supplies.  The lovely Michelle comes around each morning in the "Munch Mobile" delivering papers bread, a friendly chat and all the neccessities.  You can have a fire but cannot collect wood in the Inskip Recreation Area.  There are pit toilets.  If you have a 4X4, you can drive along the beach to Rainbow and Double Island Point and through to Noosa.  Another lovely outing is taking a "walk on" the barge to Fraser Island which is free.  Given the amount of fresh water the fishing and crabbing was awful, though I did see a fisherman get a good trevally off the beach on the Fraser side.  The swimming is excellent and safe for kids.  There are midgies.  All in all I think it is excellent value

Just spent 3 nights at Inskip, and will say its a great spot. The fishing wasn,t great , but met up with pete& gail, and had a great time. They have got their van camping down pat, and the food was great. Paid$15.60 for 3 nights. No showers, and you have to cart water and wood, but would recommend it, but not at Easter or xmas. Will be back. Buy food and fuel at Gympie as Rainbow beach is expensive.$14 for 500grms bacon at Rainbow!

Second that Bill . Rainbow is way over the top .

Gympie has always been a good place to do the shopping .

Inskip is a great place though .

There's also a small-ish shopping centre at Cooloola Cove, with Woolies, a chemist, doctor and a few other small shops. And a great bakery at Tin Can Bay. biggrin
