Hi All, we need to get a new fridge for van and and was wondering if any of you out there have the Waeco Coolmatic installed, they seem to be a big difference in price, is this just because they do not work on gas or it is an inferior product, would really appreciate your feedback. Pauline
Thanks DeBe, do you have solar or if you rely on 12 volt when camping does it use up battery power a lot quicker, we are set up with 2 heavy duty batteries and also will have a genny, would that be sufficient
Ours is an 80 lt Waeco coolmatic.... no worries so far! We have 2 batteries and 120watt portable solar panels to "feed" it when not on mains. You might need a genny if theres no sun for a few days, but so far havent had that problem.
At this stage we don,t have solar and were not planning on getting it, mainly the cost factor
No point in committing yourself to solar unless the need arises, especially if you have sufficient battery capacity and a back-up genny. I assume that your set-up is properly wired to enable the battery to be recharged from the tug's alternator while on the move.
Compressor fridges are much more efficient than 3 ways and (unlike 3 ways) work just as well while "on the move" as when pulled up. They are quite uncritical of not being level.
3 ways do offer the advantage of being able to be run for extended periods on gas.
Yes Jimricho we do have vehicle setup to recharge batteries from alternator when moving, hoping that would be enough as I do like the waeco better and pricewise they seem good value
Hi Pauline. I do have solar only 100W, but if no sun i use a generator & charger as i only have an ordinary N70ZZ batery which is ok for 24Hrs. The vehicle altenator also charges the battery when travelling.
We have decided to get solar, just the portable until we change vans. Found this one on ebay and bought it. Have to say it seems brilliant and the seller was easy to deal with. Everything looks spot on with it. We paid $395 plus delivery.
