CAMPING ON PRIVATE LAND IN VICTORIA.

My previous post asked about Easter camping/caravaning planning I have to organise, failed misserably, I am now trying for -

Camping/caravaning on private land in Victoria, preferably by a river.  Willing to pay a fee.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Not being a Victorian I cant say for sure... you might get pretty muddy beside a river down that way, the flooding has been widespread.

You could check with local tourist info people or maybe caravan parks in the chosen area?

Not permitted in residential areas, but in a friends yard for a couple of days usually doesn't raise any eyebrows.
Not a problem on Rural land providing it's not specifically banned by the local council.
However the owner can not charge a fee unless it's a registered camp ground or caravan park etc. and carries the appropriate permits and public liability insurance coverage.
Cheers, ozjohn.

Seems like you need a Camps Australia Wide book.

Or some farmer friends who might let you stay in a corner of their paddock.
I know that is what they do over in NZ. My brother has a campervan and they have get togethers all over the country. A group will get together in a known farmers paddock for a long weekend or a week depending on where they are.
I'm sure they must do something similiar here.

We always have this problem at Easter too. Somewhere within 2 hours drive, not crowded, a river or creek...

Years ago my brother knew a bloke with a farm on the upper reaches of the Brisbane river. That was a great spot but he stopped people coming in.

More recently 2nd brother knew someone with a farm on a creek near Kyogle. They've sold and moved further away.

Now my sister has moved to Cooloola Cove, but the Bruce Highway at Easter would be horrible.

Then, of course, the weather is so unpredictable this year...

Decisions decisions...confuse

yeah.  I hate booking for someone else.

Will probably end up at Sheep Yard Flats near Mansfield, but it gets so crowded there and you have to put up with other people's bad habits, like screaming kids and loud music.

Have you checked that thread recently?

Personally think you would be better off, crowd wise, following your thoughts expressed in that thread.

Tyrendara beside a babbling brooke absolutely gets me, awesome spot...

If coming from melb its just past Tyrendara on tne left, turn down a dirt road (1st one ya come to), awesome spot, if coming from Portland/Port Fairy 1st right past Mt Clay Rd turn hard right down the dirt track and follow your nose, no facilities just an awesome spot for a few days freecamping...
